orinda is more rural than piedmont. Houses have much bigger lots and in the woods. If you like nature (trees, creek, wild life) then orinda is for you. If you like City living more then go with piedmont.
lower piedmont which goes to beach elementary is hot - Piedmont schools and easy access to BART/transbay bus and other amenities - best of both worlds
