if you want your kid to be successful, teach them capitalism.

I don’t think it’s something that can be taught… the smart ones will figure it out for themselves; the dumb ones can never learn.

The dumb ones run for Congress

I earned mine. She stole hers.
The best thing about Nancy is as long as she is in power the Democratic Party is doomed…

i think it can be taught. looks like it at least.

The Dems think all they to do to win is be against Trump to get elected.
Didn’t work in 2016. After their pathetic whining tonight, I think the Republicans hold power in November, especially it the Democratic machine doesn’t compromise and help get an immigration bill passed. Trump has them between a rock and a hard place.

Um… yes and I can also teach a monkey how to dance…

Here is another question I think about.

The secular trend is that capital has more earning power than labor, and increasingly so. Say the price of sending your kid to private schools is 1M, in 2018 dollars.

Which would be better for your kid? You spend that 1M on private schools, or you save that 1M and invest. Of course your kid would still go to schools, but just ordinary public schools.

For argument’s sake let’s say after 18 years you have, in 2018 dollars, 3M. You give that 3M to your kid as her 18 year old birthday present.

Which is better for your kid? From your kid’s perspective not parent’s. Would you rather enhance your kid’s capital, or her chance of getting a better job? That’s assuming private schools actually enhance her job prospect and earning potential.

If the current trend continues, labor income will continue to lose out to capital income. Having a boatload of capital would be more lucrative than being a better laborer.

True and probably always has been true. Problem is most people can’t handle wealth at a young age. Look at Paris Hilton , most lotto winners and sports stars. Maybe we should start a school for young rich people on how to handle wealth for a maybe a ten percent percentage of their wealth… lol.

You should send your kids to private school and also accumulate a large amount of inheritance for them. If you can’t achieve both, public school with tutoring.

I think private school is not about job prospect. It has a weak connection to better job and better pay, but it provides more. Question is what’s the main benefits of an elite or top private school. We know private school is better, but it’s a very ompicafed question on why it’s better for your kid.

Maybe I can open a private school with mandatory financial education classes. Your kids will be able to become rich fast when they graduate. The goal is not to become a better worker, instead I’ll teach your kids become wealthy and FIRE

The most importance goal of education should be to teach your child to be a responsible individual.

However, since this is a RE thread, we’re all capitalists  so need to look from a financial perspective. In my world, there are four kinds of labor:
Investors
Managers
Specialists
Consumers
If you can eventually taught your child to be an investor, you’re very successful. So far, I can’t move past consumer.

IMHO, high school education is enough. Since my children are not that great (high IQ but lack of persuasive comms skill), I will try to push them to get as much degrees as I can. Can’t be an investor, at least be a good specialist.

What’s a consumer? You are talking about jobs?

Investor is not a job, it can only be done by a very small percentage of people. If everyone wants to buy stocks, it would quickly become uninvestable. Same for RE

Consumer only spend money, don’t earn.
Investor doesn’t invest in stocks only!

Does private school kids have better communication skills and better in building relations and connections? Why did you not send your kids to private school with so much AAPL wealth?

Do you regret about public schools? Or are you happy that your kids will inherit AAPL shares and fat dividends for life?

Oh, spending money is one kind of labor? Thought you meant commodity labor.

Also I mentioned both RE and stocks as the main investment vehicle.

Do you think so? Private schools in SV is very academic focussed! What I need is the skill to persuade (aka con) other to work for him. For example, I pay you $1 and you earn $1000 for me, and be happy about it. How to learn such skill? Do you realize having a job is pretty dumb? That is why I quitted at the age of 44.

Negative labor

In the 19th century children were an asset… farm labor.
In the 21st century they are merely consuming… a liability…lol
Most just want to win lotto or buy bitcoins and get rich
None want to do physical labor, like a trade. A few want to become educated and have a career, Specialists, but that is too hard for most people.

There is a huge opportunity for work for trades people that millennials are rejecting. Especially plumbers Electricans
HVAC Refrigetration, robots, elevator repair.

Becasue America is high up there in the food chain. Americans don’t want to do manual labor anymore. This is what happens when a country is flushed with money. The lazy ones can just rely on welfare for support.

Maybe but you can make big money in the trades and teach employees enough to do all the work for you. Electricians and Plumbers in Tahoe can charge $120/hr.
$240k/year. And live like a king where the average wage is $12/hr and a livable house is $300k…
One guy with 5 employees could easily gross $1m a year in Tahoe net maybe $500k with a plumbing business Especially if he speaks Spanish . My friend I ski with who did all the restaurant refrigerator repairs in Tahoe with just one employee is a multi millionaire…
