Working Class Millionaires

Is that the norm for Koreans? How much is Korean like Japanese?

Probably norm for double income families mainly because both of them are too busy just like us. Whoever has more bandwidth takes care of finacial planning at that moment.
I guess there are a lot in common between japan and korea. However, i donā€™t really see the financial setup you described much in korea unless husband (who happens to be the bread winner) is really screwed with gambling or any other spending problems.

Of course joint.
Marriage == 2 persons becoming one & be together til death :skull:.
Our biggest assets are our properties which are held by our family living trust together anyway. With titles and accounts separated, it is easier for divorce but harder for death. I would rather plan for the latter as it is more inevitable .

My wife and I have similar philosophy since both of us are working in the same field (hard to tell who is the bread winner is). But we found out that she hated doing financial burden, or dealing with tenants, it is the same way as I hated planning vacations and negotiating with agents and what not. So thatā€™s how we split ours. For most things, one of us is owner and one of us is stakeholder. Owner make sure stakeholder is in the loop for important decision, but not necessarily need to involve in every details.

Old article from 2013. Wonder if anything has changed?

In Japan, thereā€™s the salary you get from your company. And if you are a married man, thereā€™s the salary you get from your wife. Itā€™s called ā€œokozukaiā€ (ćŠå°é£ć„), which is sometimes translated as ā€œpocket moneyā€. Think of it as a husband salary. Thatā€™s what it is.

Traditionally, Japanese women control a familyā€™s finances. Even if the wife works, she still is supposed to manage the householdā€™s money. As The Japan Times pointed out, in around half of Japanese households, the wife controls all the finances. (Note that the number is down from previous years in what could be a generational shift.) And in thirty percent of marriages, both the husband and wife control the finances together. And in only twenty percent of households do the husbands control the finances.

Japanese law does not allow joint or family accounts (only individual accounts!); so when itā€™s said that the wife controls the money, thatā€™s exactly what it means.

If that were the case then there wouldnā€™t be any divorceā€¦ :confounded:

not related but fun nonetheless

Bunch of pervertsā€¦

My wife for some reason especially hates her. Something about her being in porn or a slut before. I stay quiet of courseā€¦

When you read, or you are into the world of financing, you learn some very good lessons. Take for example the Vanderbilt and the Rothschild. They were the Bill Gates and Zuckerberg of their time. But Cornelius Vanderbilt didnā€™t prepare for the future. He had $105B when he died, and that money was distributed among the family members.

When in the 70s the family got together, there wasnā€™t a millionaire among them.

Now, the Rothschild, donā€™t even talk about them, rich all of them.

Jealous?

Is Zhang Ziyi secretly a hooker charging $1 million per night?

Jealousy for sure.

No, far from it. My wife is pure, pure as the driven snow. She doesnā€™t like hookers, especially China girls. She knows they are evil and sluts. She told me early on that she would never ever allow me to venture to Asia alone. She knows what goes on when one checks into a hotel and you are a single maleā€¦

Daddy! That guy said a bad word!

Didnā€™t you say your wife looks like her? She was a porn star before too. Your wife must hate your association with her thenā€¦

For some reason I love all the real or suspected porn stars in this threadā€¦

She doesā€¦ but hot is hot (canā€™t do anything about the checkered pastā€¦)

Must be due to the strong bull market. The wealth divide is getting larger. Beware of potential backlash from the have-nots. It has been brewing for years, probably decades, not just in USA, also globally. Canā€™t remember whether I have mentiond here previously, WWIII wonā€™t be fought between nations, is between haves and have-nots. Diversify! Invest some $ in Singapore. Buy a condo (known as apartment here) if youā€™re an American, only foreigners that no need to pay ABSD. Buy while the Covid-19 scare is ON. I recall after the SARS scare, prices double in a few years.
