Another "Why I'm leaving CA"

Page is a shithole. Wallmart is the social scene. It is just for provisions for Lake Powell.

I love homeless people–I really do, so no, please don’t push them off the cliff. But their junk piles… I get the “this is all I’ve got in life to cling to” mentality, but… not ok to leave them around.

No kidding. In fact, you could live on the interest from the house you sold here plus a little SS.

Welcome to the Southwest. But still. Affordable with good climate and they still have things like minigolf and bowling alleys and ice skating.

If you didn’t see Prescott you need to. Way more than a Walmart. And parts of it - especially in the hills just outside of “old town” - are really spectacular. Prescott Valley, just next door, is flat and uninspired.
If you want the Tahoe vibe there are small communities all over the Mogollon Rim. Pine forest and expansive views. Phoenix is 2 hours away if you need some culture. Yes, I know, people will laugh at “Phoenix” and “culture”" in the same sentence but lets face it, no one goes to San Francisco or San Jose for culture either. Phoenix has at least as much of it. Happy Jack, Pine and Strawberry are maybe 40 minutes out from Camp Verde, which does have a few good restaurants but they all have a much cooler climate and, I think, more interesting terrain.
Edited to say - there are also wonderful little forest communities on the 260 between Payson and Show Low.

Culture without the homeless encampments and pee-filled streets…wow, what a concept

To me, the word “culture” is the most misused and misunderstood word. Can someone help me what am I getting with this San Francisco culture or what it means when someone talks about “culture”?

I think my mother would say that it’s the ability to enjoy arts/museum/music of different kinds. She moved from NYC to NM, and it was really important to her to get season tickets to the Symphony orchestra, to be able to go to museum (none at all comparable to things like the Natural History Museum in NYC), etc.

I always wonder how often do people actually do those things? None of them sell enough tickets to sustain themselves. They all require donations or foundations to fund them. Meanwhile, the New York sports teams can charge a small fortune for tickets and concessions, and they play in multi billion dollar venues. Yeah, New Yorkers are so cultured. Lol.

Nowadays no need to visit museums. Can read up on the web  and watch Utube.

Museums, theaters, opera, libraries are all holdovers from the nineteenth century. All doomed just like newspapers and buggy whips. Culture will be found on the Internet. No need to step over poop and homeless to go to a downtown venue.
All are being pushed out a little faster thanks to covid19

Well it depends. You can’t do the Sonora Desert Museum remotely. In fact I probably woudn’t have bought my Marara high desert property if I hadn’t seen it. The Botanical Gardens in Phoenix are the same way. For that matter the Arboretum in Golden Gate Park is one of the few gems the city has.

I have to disagree. Watching an Opera over the internet is pretty lame. People like to go “out” and get away from their lives and enjoy something. When so much of our lives are on the internet, hearing things in person and seeing people in person is enjoyable. Just not in SF.

Wait for VR  to be mature.

Ok… Maybe… And then… you meet your friends at a restaurant afterwards??? Or just get a TV dinner and pop it into the microwave?

I think the SIP has shown people how much they actually enjoy getting out of the house.

You have found your true self!

I’m a severe introvert, but I’m realizing I REALLY need friends (introverts aren’t antisocial, they just like to socialize with people they know well). I need to get away from my family for my sanity.

That’d be the end of the human species. No more sex and no more babies. People just immerse themselves in VR porn.

Even without VR, is happening. Recently you show a chart indicating declining world population.

Declining human species is mainly due to rise of feminism and birth control pills. Men can impregnate many women but women control whether to give birth. Women have moved from docile to equal rights to dominating men. VR women are far better  Ask @elt1 :hugs:

What are you insinuataing about elt1’s wife???
