At 132k headcount, it seems to be bloated.

I’m getting pessimistic on tech hiring. Slowdown is here and recession? Hope not

It’s rotational. Look at IBM, HP, and Dell. They used to be huge in the 90’s and were a huge percent of tech hiring. They’ve been doing layoffs for at least a decade. Meanwhile, tech hiring and salaries have done great over that decade. Other companies are hiring even more than those old companies are laying off. There’s always that type of rotation happening within tech.

Yeah. Only after the bad recession, the new generation of tech will arrive, maybe with a generation of tech workers. Many old timers at IBM were left behind in the dust

Tech is always evolving. There are plenty of tech companies hiring. Even Apple is still hiring just at a slower pace. The number of tech jobs will keep growing.

This is because this disastrous administration.

Even the banks are getting hit by the tax cuts.

Likely selective. Doubt there is a slowdown in hiring SWEs skilled at cloud computing, SAAS, ML/AI, VR/AR and sensor technologies. Control HCs in area they feel is overhead or sunset, fights for talents in the growing segments.

Cook said he is yet to fully determine which divisions would cut back on hiring, but said that key groups such as Apple’s artificial intelligence team would continue to add new employees at a strong pace.

During the meeting, Cook was asked if the company would impose a hiring freeze in response.
