Austin MSA vs SFBA and TX vs CA

Amazing that Nevada has low property taxes and no income tax. They make so much tax revenue from hotel, rental car, and casino taxes.

At least we are not New Jersey!

Tesla, now headquartered in Austin, Texas, has grown to about 100,000 employees globally, hiring rapidly as it built out new factories in Austin and Berlin.

Didn’t realize announce in Oct and happen in Dec 2021. Is a matter of time, more startups in Texas

On Oct 7, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the company would be moving its headquarters to Austin, but gave few details on the timing of the move.

The CA FTB is happy.

I met Jay once at a party in Michigan, so it was YEARS ago. It had to be in the 2001-2004 time frame, since I met him through my friend who was an ER resident then.

“In 1990, Gary Erickson set off on a one-day, 175-mile bicycle ride with his buddy Jay. As usual, he packed six energy bars for the ride—using the only bar on the market at the time. Halfway through the ride, exhausted and hungry, Gary realized he just couldn’t eat another unappetizing, sticky, hard-to-digest bar. Then and there, in a moment he now calls “the epiphany,” the inspiration for the CLIF® Bar was born.”

He had zero ownership of the company but got free boxes of the product. Maybe now he can give Jay some cash.

Just pull off band aid

Welcome CVX :kissing:

Now in Plano, checking out RE. In Apr, many houses have listed prices at 35%-40% higher than :scream: Jan prices, and are now reducing prices by 10% :stuck_out_tongue: Net-net is still asking for 25%-30% higher than Jan prices. The RE market here is more insane than Austin. In Austin, current asking prices are about 10-15% higher than Jan prices.

Media has been dramatizing that there are many price declines and predicting a crash (no definition is given). From what I see, prices in Plano can decline by 20-25%, sellers who have bought more than a year ago still make good money.

What about Liberty hill bought in past 3 months?

.

Should be able to check using Redfin. Prices gain about ~8%. However, new construction has cut prices by 8%-10% from their sky high asking prices. In general, I notice price appreciation for liberty hill is greater than Leander which is greater than cedar park. I stay in Cedar Park :sob:

I would love to know how many tech employees get an abortion while working in tech. Based on the demographics below, I’m guessing not many are working in tech.

“ Three out of four women having an abortion are low income and cluster near or below the poverty line.”

“ Not every state reports abortion by ethnicity, but those that do reveal that abortions to blacks and Hispanic women account for 55.4% of the 405,795 abortions reported by race. This number is disproportionate considering the fact that black and Hispanic women only comprise roughly 29% of the total U.S. population.”

Tech people do not get time from slogging at work. Single techies have poor to zero love life so no chance of unwanted pregnancy. Married ones do everything according to planning and very often both spouses work at tech so suffer from excessive work and high stress and low fertility. Haha this may sound extreme but captures the essence of techies life.

I don’t think we can conclude anything from the available data as CA, IL, MA, FL, WA which combined would easily surpass 70% of tech jobs doesn’t report.

What’s the demographic mix where you work? I can literally count the number of black co-workers I’ve had on one hand and the Hispanic ones on two hands. Meanwhile, I’ve worked with about a dozen Indian guys named Amit. I guess there was a period where that name was super popular due to a celebrity.

Google reports their demographics. It’s almost 90% white and Asian (which includes Indian).

https://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/news/2020/05/05/for-the-first-time-white-men-werent-the-largest.html

2.3% are black women and 2.3% are Latin women.

FB is even more white and Asian.

I merely pointed out the sampling you took was biased and not representative since it is from mostly non tech states. If you are including race then it should be further divided by income category, sex education exposure etc. since most of the abortions occur due to poverty.
