Austin MSA vs SFBA and TX vs CA

I used to get chewed out by their security up on Page Mill Rd for cutting through their parking lot to get to Gunn High School. Going all the way down to, I think it was Hansen Street, and then going back up the long hill to the bike trail was about another 10 minutes of pumping. I was bummed when they built up the area between the old plant and Hansen; that field was a good place to catch gopher snakes. All my friends were bummed when Stanford decided to build housing on the adjacent vacant land just the other side of Page Mill. We use to call that Kite Hill. Was good for gopher snakes and kingsnakes as well as flying kites. Us delinquents did manage to delay that project some when we snuck in one night and moved all the survey markers. Guess we were the original NIMBY’s. But of course, ultimately, “progress” prevailed.

Can we say Texas model is showing signs of winning over California model? Now all we need is people to migrate from CA to TX and make TX look and feel like CA and vote left.

Texas has a lot of appeal for people from the Midwest. Better weather and better job prospects. For a Californian Texas ain’t so appealing. The Sacramento MSA has a lot more to offer than Austin which is the only place Californians would even consider. Dallas and Houston are pretty miserable. The best thing about Texas is cheap flights to Mexico and the Caribbean. And the fact that you can drive to Colorado to ski.

HP is located in CA. Not in Texas. Lot of corporations are moving from CA, like schwab, HP etc. If land-0-lakes, Cargill, Monsantao, ADM etc start moving, I will say Midwest is moving to TX.

HP is moving for money. People move for a lot of reasons but weather is very important

That is the point. People move with money (and money moves with people. they move in bundle). Will CA real estate prices will become reasonable to reflect the current earning capacity ie rent)? .

Rents are going up in the Sacramento MSA. As far as HP don’t they just make cheap printers and basically only make money selling ink. Hardly a trend setter.
People don’t move to Texas from California fir jobs. They move there because it’s cheap and no income tax.
Makes up fir bad weather for people that aren’t into outdoor activities

My move to AZ was mostly guided by greater personal liberty and close proximity making the move easy but weather was top of my list. I looked at highs, lows and means at various elevations and narrowed it down from there. I love visiing my high desert property but wouldn’t live there full time.

tough job of making sure the people coming from blue states understand there is lot in the life beyond the stock market valuation and the net worth. Personal freedom and free will top the list. There is a Indian couplet that translates something like this (expressing wish of a bird in search of food):

Better to starve and die, than to accept food that comes with curbs on the ability to fly.
(who would want to be a bird in a golden cage. food guaranteed but no flight)

Prison? Are there nations that forbid citizens (aka modern slaves  ) from leaving the countries of birth?

I think the couplet in the above lines suggested that some people cannot see beyond the glitter of the gold coins. They will do immoral things or be part of it. For examples, if you see history of traitors (or in terms of modern theory, the people who cannot resolve principal-agent conflict) generally do so for a relatively small some of money. In their mind they cannot value what they are giving up for a small sum. For the bird in the couplet above, ability to fly is something very valuable to be given up for some guaranteed food.

So much is relative and subjective. A large home in beautiful surroundings in one part of the country may be worth little on paper; a rabbit hutch in SV is worth millions. It’s all about quality of life.

Austin has been Californicated. It’s hypocritical Democratic mayor caught vacationing on a private jet to Mexico

Days before he offered the covid19 stay at home warning, Adler had hosted his daughter’s wedding at an Austin hotel with about 20 guests. Then, he and eight wedding guests took a private jet to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where they stayed together in a timeshare.

After the Austin American-Statesman first reported Adler’s trip, which he had not previously disclosed to the public, the mayor apologized Wednesday for taking the trip and setting a poor example as coronavirus cases spiked across Texas.

Elon is always playing game with the public officials. He did well, manage to get good benefits from them where others can’t.

Elon also sent email about cost control for future profitabiltiy.which simply not possible with California production.
Any decline in Fremont production which will make Panasonic revaluate its joint venture in Nevada.

zero personal income tax going forward. posted the following elsewhere, posting it again on this thread.

Musk also stands to save a lot of money on income taxes by moving to the Lone Star State. The billionaire CEO is slated to earn more than $50 billion in stock options, and he would have to pay income taxes on the profits when he exercises them if he remained in California. Texas, however, has no personal income tax

.

Musky is an asshole

You don’t like him? Why?

My view is NONE of the CEO’s are significantly different from Musk(in terms of their assholeness  )
