Austin MSA vs SFBA and TX vs CA

The quicker you let go of old cheese the sooner you can enjoy new cheese.

The list of of the words and phrases I have used lately:

  1. Peak California - An idea that California peaked its glory a few years ago. Will California shape the popular and political culture for the rest of the USA? Looks very unlikely. What about the innovation in field of science and tech? Can it do it? California cannot even control forest fires. What will it do to solve other problems?

  2. California population maxing out: Once the state starts shedding population ( a very slow process) real estate prices will be affected.

  3. Rents are true indicator of where the home prices are heading.

I hear the argument that companies are moving out because of taxation as if taxation is a trivial problem and it does not matter to highly innovative companies (may be true for the companies that are able to show losses and have zero tax liability) . Taxation appears as a problem, when benefits of taxation do not add up in comparison of the taxes paid.

All startups are innovative :wink: hence don’t have tax liability because of no earning :face_with_hand_over_mouth: only incur losses :face_with_hand_over_mouth: high growth :sweat_smile:

For 30 years every start-up I ever worked for either failed or was bought out by a non-California entity.

It will be a good idea to see how many if these start-ups are just pure scams created to line the pockets of promoters. And will these start-ups still be around if taxpayers refuse to subsidize them? In other words, is it a good idea for an established company like Oracle to subsidize a startup that has no chance of succeeding in market place anyway? Funding and running a startup should be a rare activity and easy money and subsidies in the market should not create a startup bubble of the kind we have seen previously.

I’m constantly surprised how many people want to repeat the mistakes of Detroit and believe it’ll lead to prosperity. It’s also amazing people choose America then insist it adopt policies of countries they either left or didn’t choose for immigration. The same is happening with Californians that leave then vote for similar policies in their new state.

Absolutely. It’s funny how some BA people work 80 hours week to pay mortgage and still live in a leaky shack and pay 4M upfront and 50k in taxes every year and cut back on every expense and live a sorry lifestyle and then pretend to feel good and successful. They could have stayed in their village and be much happier.

Yeah, California is such a failure it’s churning out one blockbuster IPO after another. Cry me a river.

0 to 1B valuation in less than 2 years? It’s extremely rare. AirBnb took almost 3 years.

Then run before that happen. The tidal wave has started. Told you when it was a trickle. Now is tidal wave. When will you believe? When the tidal wave came and left?

Told you a few times. Now that I have some money under my name I get to choose to live wherever the heck I like to live. Good weather. Good food. I like it here. Moving to some hellhole after you are rich doesn’t make sense.

Your criteria? How about huge square footage in a house? You can get 4000-5000 sqft single story SFH with attached bathroom for each bedroom on a few acres of land with a Mountain View scenery for less than $1M, ocean view would need a couple of millions :stuck_out_tongue: I don’t mean exurbs or rural area - not far from The Domain where you can enjoy Michelle grade food.

Anyhoo, didn’t hear good things about weather in SF. Good weather is in South Bay :wink:

Austin has a lot to offer if you’re rich enough. Ask Elon Musk and Larry Ellison.

I am very curious how the extra WFH days will transform the Bay Area. Vaccine is coming literally next week. Rent has come down a lot in SF so it’s much more affordable for young people now. Quality of life will have improved a lot after the economy fully reopens and life goes back to normal in 6 months.

The only downside is those damn wild fires. Hopefully something will be done there. But then it’s not like climate change doesn’t affect Texas.
