I’m in Austin downtown first time here. And I change my opinion about Bay Area and SF. Austin downtown is filthy too. It’s really gross here. Homeless everywhere. Food scene is no match to Bay Area. Plus it’s an oven even at 10pm. Austin downtown is like a concrete jungle with no character or style or artistic constructions. SF tbh is a different league compared to this shit hole. No comparison.
SF is really gifted but getting destroyed by stupid policies. If only it solved its homelessness problem it would be back to the big league.
Note that this opinion is solely based on downtown Austin.
Policies trump weather and scenery in determining the desirability of a place. If @manch doesn’t agree with this, my toes will be laughing.
I always laugh when @manch quotes DT Austin to deduce that Austin MSA is like that. When I said SF sucks, I didn’t say Bay Area sucks. SF sucks. So is DT Austin. Both are run by Democrats. They introduce the same policies.
You sure guys are not just too “classy” for downtown night life?
6th Street in Austin was awesome when I visited. So many people everywhere, so alive. Live music everywhere. Easy Bar hopping , Thought the food scene in Austin was solid although not enough Asian places for me!
Sure Some homeless but compared to SF, it was day and night. Never felt unsafe.
I understood the appeal. Hot as hell and too humid for me but I’m Bay Area soft.
I’m Staying on the 6th street, Hyatt Centric. Quality of clubs, bars, streets etc isn’t even close to SF or Bay Area; it’s not at all classy, everything looks n feels run down compared to SF or Bay Area. For Bay Area residents it feels like downgrading from Rolls Royce to Corolla. Not that Bay Area is Rolls Royce but that’s the magnitude of difference.
People are nicer here though. Two person asked me on separate occasions how I’m liking here. I bet girls are easier here n have far lower expectations so SF transplants can have fun n do well here.
Houston has the most Asian population. Ofc, restaurants and groceries too.
Not many Asians in DT. Most of them are in:
Jollyville
Brushy Creek
Wells Branch
Anderson Mill
Cedar Park
I doubt Singapore is even close to SF and Bay Area in natural beauty and weather.
Most things change with time and politics but these two are constant.
Overall I think Austin is overrated. I feel bad for people who are forced to leave nicer places and live here. It really feels like downgrading from Rolls Royce to Corolla.
Sorry if I offended anyone. I was not a fan of Bay Area and SF and admired Austin till I saw it. I guess I was suffering from grass is greener syndrome. I truly change my opinion. Can’t live here ever. First It’s an oven. Then it’s Run down, filthy, poor infrastructure, no character, ugly, concrete jungle.
