Austin MSA vs SFBA and TX vs CA

Is a good time to buy apparel and consumer goods, plenty of discounts

Why do you think they are closing stores in those specific cities?

May be this?

Walmart has also closed some stores, including four in Chicago in April, but didn’t blame theft. In a news release at the time, the retailer said it has struggled to make the locations profitable and challenges have intensified. It said the stores ā€œlose tens of millions of dollars a year, and their annual losses nearly doubled in just the last five years.ā€

To be clear I’m not discounting the occurrence of theft and has to be fixed. The other day I was speaking with a security guard in raleys and he told me company asking him to let the theft happen and they get double the amount from insurance company for each product stolen.

Because only California even bothered to tally the numbers. If you don’t gather and publish the stats, you can pretend everything is rosy perfect. Typical Texas approach.

Notice how they don’t count hydroelectric as clean anymore. Now they claim dams cause too much environmental disruption.

Natural gas used to be considered clean too. Pelosi was a huge advocate for it. Then we discovered we have abundant and cheap natural gas. They had to re-label it as evil.

Seems to only be happening in super blue cities. I’m sure that’s just correlation and zero causation though.

Nobody want to leave Austin? Like hot? You mean weather doesn’t matter. What? People leaving because of crimes, needles and feces?

I actually have never seen feces and needles in all my years living in SF. But out of town people always tell me they are everywhere. Of course I know where I may see them. It’s pretty easy to avoid those small areas.

SF has its share of problems. But compared to its innate strengths they aren’t that big a deal. And people are starting to get real in addressing those problems. I will stay in the Bay Area if not SF in particular just for my kids. Moving to some shitty place with far less opportunities is not for me. I care about my kids too much to do that.

Life is more than sitting at air conditioned home all day being scared of the outside world because of ā€œcrimes needles and fecesā€. Get out more. It’s a big and wonderful world outside.

There is nowhere better in the world for young people to start out in tech, and tech is where the future of the world is being made. It’s being made right here folks. Imagine yanking kids out of the future because parents are old and scared of the outside world. To be honest that feels quite selfish.
