New York’s political games aren’t going to make it any more attractive as a place to domicile financial centers.
“What we’re seeing now is an incredible demand for new engineering talent and jobs, especially with engineering and programmers who understand how to work within artificial intelligence.
It seems every other day another tech firm announces a series of layoffs. It’s been going on for more than a year and is fueling notions of doom and gloom…
In a nutshell, AI engineers command above market pay while old tech SWEs would be laid off and have to drive UBER and LYFT to make end meets.
Pre-seed funding metro ranking. Bay Area took 30% and NYC took 15%. LA, Boston and Seattle rounded out the Top 5. Note that even at No.5 Seattle only took in 3%.
Bay Area is also one of the very few metros whose funding grew in 2023. Most others fell. Including right wing favorites like Austin (-30% lol) and Miami (-37% double lolz).
Come at the king and you better not miss. Alas, they all missed. All those talks about Silicon Valley being disrupted by Austin and Miami were just stupid.
All that VC funding yet:
I wonder how all 3 data points can be true and what scenario would drive it?
Things come in waves.
Office vacancy and some tech workers moving out reflect the state of old guard companies.
Blockbuster VC funding is about the health of the new generations of tech. The giants of tomorrow are being made right here in Bay Area again. Give them some time and they will grow to be the next Apples and Metas. We already have a glimpse of that in AI.
The two pictures don’t contradict.
“The LAO listed several areas of one-time and temporary spending where cuts can be made, totaling nearly $16 billion. Categories of cuts include business and labor, criminal justice, education, health and human services, housing and homelessness, resources and environment and transportation.”
That’s going to make any progress on crime and homelessness tough to maintain.

California must be eager to accelerate the loss of high income earners. It was rejected this time, but it’ll resurface as budget realities set in.
There’s a push among Corporate Commission members here in AZ to disallow APS, our electric utility, from passing on to customers any rate increases necessary to switch to renewables. Hopefully it goes through. That will kill any large scale switch to expensive, unreliable wind and solar. Currently we pay about 0.16 per kWh.
Office vacancy is a national phenomenon. I just interviewed a tenant the is in charge of the state equine program. She only has to go the state office 2 days a week. This is not a SF only issue.,
That’s true, but it’s worse on SF than any other city. It’s not even close.
It’s fake news. No way SJ beat SF. Lol.

I went to AAA today to get a document notarized. While there I noticed that AAA charges 10$ for a single document in CA and only 3$ in NV or UT. ![]()
Wait until minimum wage is $50…
