Arizona isn’t Texas but I’ve found just the reverse after moving here having sent 50 years in CA. People are friendlier and more accommodating. Affordable housing means diverse communities - not communities where your mechanic had to commute in from two hours away. The poor may have it worse here (not even sure about that) but the middle class has it much better. And the infrastructure is far better. Better roads and much faster response if there is a traffic accident or weather related disaster. Fantastic fire response that Californians could only dream of. No war on the police. Services where they matter, like snow removal and quickly cleared accidents - no highways shut down for half a day because of a jackknifed big rig. Rural communties with their own libraries and not just a bookmobile coming through for 90 minutes a week. What we don’t have is $60,000 a year tents for the homelss to live in like SF has - but I’m OK with that lack of “service.”
AZ and TX are probably great states for people who are rich, which I will arbitrarily define as folks who have a net worth of $4-5M and up. In Silicon Valley, that makes a family upper middle class, but in TX and AZ, they can buy the same house in cash for $500k and have $3-4M in cash/investments to live on very comfortably
Democrats pay lip sympathy to all those causes. In reality they are as corrupt and beholden to wealthy interests as the Republicans. It’s just that Republicans are openly dishonest and loathsome, whereas Democrats sound like they are your friend, but they are not pro-people either.
Case in point: DACA
Dems controlled WH, House and Senate with filibuster proof majority from 2008-10. Did they do anything for the illegal immigrants? NO
They could have easily given a clear path to citizenship for millions of hard working illegal immigrants by passing a law. But did nothing. Few months before his re-election in 2012, Obama woke up and created DACA by executive order - to this day it’s shaky with a judge in TX just declaring it invalid.
Trump was openly against immigrants and quite rude and loathsome in his language. But Dems are just shedding crocodile tears for them, not really their friends either
The reason people are not happy in California is because the state is run by the mindset of 1960s. It is 2021, people have moved 60 years away from 1960s. Many people understand what is wrong in California. But, many people have no clue why state of California, that is endowed with best weather, big population, lot of arable land, long coast line, cannot keep people happy.
All the left ruling states eventually fall into full despondence. California has super majority of left for last 5 yeas. Yet so much dissatisfaction!
Do you really think people of CA would feel happier if the ruling party in Sacramento was GOP? I don’t think the common man/woman would care.
Our happiness is not determined by who is governor or president. Makes no difference to most people…
Those who look on to government to provide them food, shelter, and happiness, and bunch of self-conceived entitlements ( right of food, right of clothes, right of electricity, right of education, right of healthcare, right of transportation, right to respect of some-kind) will certainly not be happy. Those who do not look to government to provide anything other than good policing will be happy. And those who want less interference from government (tax and regulations) into there personal life and work will be happy too. It is basically a function of attitude of the person towards the role of state.
Democrats can keep neither side happy. The dems cannot fulfill unlimited wants of the people who demand everything from government. Neither can dems meet the expectations of the people who demand nothing (except policing/law-order) from government. Republicans can at least keep the second half happy.
If you think Republicans are the party of limited government, you are sadly mistaken. Under the last 2 Republican administrations - GW Bush and Trump - the deficit and government spending has increased. GOP just spends money on the defense industrial complex more than in healthcare or education etc.
The primary job of governments is to keep order, national security, and policing. So money on defense can be understood. Rest of all welfare spending is bogus because one can buy such services from free market.
That is your opinion. Different people have different opinions on the role of government. I am merely pointing out that GOP is no longer the party of limited government. Under GOP administrations, the government and its spending gets bloated as much as under Dem administrations. It’s just that the government grows or bloats in slightly different directions under the 2 parties - that is a good check and balance, by the way. I am all for power switching back and forth between Republicans and Democrats at the National level every 4-8 years. That way, neither party is able to drive the country too far off a centrist course for a long time. I am glad that there was a Trump between Obama and Biden, as much as I am glad and relieved that Trump did not get re-elected.
I am not advocating one party or another. You are the one who is telling who is more corrupt than the other.
I am just telling you what the role of government should be. The roles of governments are very few: national defense, policing, law and order, and enforcement of contracts etc. That is all. Rest everything can be performed efficiently by the free-markets.
As far as corruption in government, this is what I can say. As long as there are people who like to be fooled, there well be scammers who will do the honors. They will fool you to take your money. I generally do not advise what people should do. But, I plan my life conscious of the fact that there are people willing to be fooled, and there are people only too eager to fool those who wish to be fooled.
