Austin MSA vs SFBA and TX vs CA

Not to mention proposition 187 that passed in the 1994 to keep track of citizens and to deny services to illegal immigrants? The proposition was later killed by courts just like they did prop 22 and many others.

From wiki:

Key elements of Proposition 187[edit]

Proposition 187 included the following key elements:[7]

  1. All law enforcement agents who suspect that a person who has been arrested is in violation of immigration laws must investigate the detainee’s immigration status, and if they find evidence of illegality they must report it to the attorney general of California, and to the federal Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). They must also notify the detainee of his or her apparent status as an alien.
  2. Local governments are prohibited from preventing or limiting the fulfillment of this requirement.
  3. If government agents suspect anyone applying for benefits of being illegal immigrants, the agents must report their suspicions in writing to the appropriate enforcement authorities.
  4. A person shall not receive any public social services until he or she has been verified as a United States citizen or as a lawfully admitted alien.
  5. A person shall not receive any health care services from a publicly funded health care facility until he or she meets the requirements above.
  6. A public elementary or secondary school shall not admit or permit the attendance of any child until he or she meets the requirements above.
  7. By 1996, each school district shall verify the legal status of each child enrolled within the district and the legal status of each parent or guardian of each child.
  8. A child who is in violation of the requirements above shall not continue to attend the school 90 days from the date of notice to the attorney general and INS.
  9. The attorney general must keep records on all such cases and make them available to any other government entity that wishes to inspect them.
  10. The manufacture, distribution, sale, or use of false citizenship or residency documents is a state felony punishable by imprisonment or fine.

McKesson Corporation (NYSE:MCK) today announced the relocation of its corporate headquarters from San Francisco, California to Las Colinas, Texas, effective April 1, 2019, expanding upon its presence in the Dallas area.

Wonder how its stocks are doing…

I have told @manch many years ago, now soon-to-be richest man in the :earth_americas: repeated my message,

Musk said he thought Austin had huge potential beyond just hosting him and his new factory.

“It’s going to be the biggest boomtown that America has seen in 50 years, at least — megaboom,” Musk said.

The Information reported Dropbox CEO Drew Houston was moving to the city as well…

Still own DBX?

If you are messing with @manch it’s fine but if you take this guy serious on whatever he says I’ve to warn you! He even said covid will disappear

I guess @hanera is fine. He’s the only person who puts money where he’s mouth is. He actually moved to Austin. Gotta respect that. Much better than people who badmouthed Bay Area and CA all day long but aren’t going anywhere.

Everyone is entitled to cheer for their home team.

Will Tesla continue to rule the EV market? I have my doubts. It seems finally EV’s are starting to roll out from other car firms. Tesla’s FSD is a joke. If GM’s system killed as many drivers as Elon’s did people will be protesting at GM’s front door. But people are still willing to cut Elon some slack. Tesla’s future is not in the car market but rather its fledging energy business.

Never owned DBX. Seems like a HP calibre company.

From the article above:

“I think we do need to make sure that … people who move here from California don’t inadvertently recreate the issues that caused them to move in the first place,” Musk said during Thursday’s interview.

Musk is sorely mistaken. If the Californians were smart enough as he expect them to be, they would not create problem in their home state in the first place.

He notices and wants to warn them. Anyhoo, city of Austin where his factory is located is already badly influenced by Californian transplants. Williamson county where I am staying is slowly catching the disease. The obvious disease is the way they bid for houses. The norm is to bid 10% below asking price, the Californian transplants and investors bid 10%+ higher than asking price.

Do people realize a majority don’t even pay income tax anymore? The federal government is increasingly funded by the top 10% of earners. Also, the top 10% are the only ones paying enough social security and Medicare taxes to cover their expenses. Basically, 90% of the US is a net drag on the federal government. They cost more the government more than they’ll ever pay in taxes.

That’s not even getting into property taxes and school funding and how very few actually pay enough to cover the cost of K-12 for their own kids.

You already know the answer. Most Americans do not know and frankly do not care to know.

Why just focus on income tax?

All pay payroll tax and sales tax. Renters pay something called rent which landlords use to pay property tax.

As a share of income poor people actually pay more taxes than rich people.

Clearly, that one line triggers you, and you don’t read the rest.

You also love to quote how little corporations pay in income tax and forget all the payroll taxes they pay.

As a share of income is irrelevant. How long will society last when 90% of people cost the government more than they contribute in taxes? That’s an unsustainable model. You love to site Finland and Sweden. You should probably study up on the effective income tax rates for the middle class. You want Sweden style benefits without the same middle class tax contributions. The math doesn’t work.

No kidding. It’s the same way Amazon openly supported vote-by-mail for presidential election, but they argue against it for union election. People only want vote-by-mail when it can be used to stuff extra votes for their view point.

Where does this 90% number come from? Hand waving?

The whole idea of social safety net, the whole idea of helping the poor, is to give them more than they take.

As expected, the mobile are leaving while the ossifying are staying behind.
