Home prices across the state have also climbed dramatically. Texas is experiencing a housing crunch, even though its land use regulations are among the least restrictive in the country and developers have more space to build than in California. Incomes, however, have not kept pace. Here’s what that imbalance looks like in the Dallas metro area, which includes Collin County:
For Chabot, his new hometown is a huge upgrade from San Bernardino County, which he describes as a “third-world country.” Crime was rampant and public schools failing, he says. Middle class families like his struggled to keep up with high taxes and rents. It was barely recognizable from the community he grew up in as a kid, he adds.
Census data shows that San Bernardino has indeed changed. From 2000 to 2016, its population surged by 25%. It also became poorer, more diverse, less affordable, and more Democratic.
But the data also show Collin County is evolving along similar lines as San Bernardino. Its population has also swelled—at a much faster rate than in the California county. Over the past decade and a half, Collin, too, has grown poorer, less affordable and less Republican.
I guess the march towards socialism/communism is unstoppable despite all the real world examples of it’s failure. People should look at Cuba, N Korea, Venezuela, East of the Berlin wall before the wall came down, and China before it adopted capitalist policies. No one looked at those places and said, “Oh, I want to go live there.”
The only countries where it hasn’t completely collapsed have very small populations with great natural resources they can export to fund things. Even those countries are starting to rack up massive amounts of debt to sustain programs that won’t be sustainable long-term.
I’ve been reading Phoenix city-data forums for around 2 years and there are noticeable number of people fleeing Socal to Phoenix. Some of these people are hoping for more red state mentality in Phoenix. Phoenix certainly have a sizeable ex-military people living there. Luke AFB is big and their commissaries and exchange is very similar in size to Okinawa.
I really like Phoenix. The streets are super clean and homes mostly gorgeous and inexpensive. I will be buying there.
But what about the brutal heat?
Phoenix isn’t nearly as nice as the suburbs…Too hot in summer…get a summer place too. We have friends that own in Scottsdale and rent a house in Tahoe in the summer
Oh yeah Scottsdale is full of right wing rich people. That Rich Dad guy lives there too.
I would rather live next to rich people than angry progressives like in SF
Plenty of rich people in SF and they are not angry. I don’t like to mingle with bloodsucking lawyers though.
I know a lot of rich people in SF, most are liberals and insufferable snobs…They support liberal causes to assuage their guilt…They are miserable…Most are on my Facebook bragging about their vacations somewhere else…lol
They go to Hawaii, Vegas, Aspen, Europe, Sun Valley, Palm Springs, Caribbean and Mexico…
None go to Phoenix or Texas…lol
Certainly very hot from May/June through end of Oct. You stay indoors mostly or patios outside. Many nicer homes come with misting patio area which are nice.
We spent a week few years ago in Eastern Phoenix (Scottsdale) and this time in Western Phoenix (Surprise). I like both areas. 3 large Asian markets around Phoenix. Some very good Japanese restaurants too. Only went to one Chinese restaurant and we did not care for it, but we only went because someone was taking us there. Not sure if rumor or not but I hear H-Mark is going to Phoenix too. That would be very good. Because of ex-military presence, there are some Asian wives married to them either as military, retired, or working as civilians.
Not interested in central Phoenix (older and more congested). I think we can pick up 3 properties and another one my nephew is interested in halving.
Journalists are liberal arts, democrats, I will read it with a pinch of salt i.e. read for fun, don’t believe its conclusion.
It is so cheap to live in Phoenix you can have a second home in a moderate climate…i have been looking for a second home with nice weather in spring and fall…Vegas and San Diego seem more attractive than Phoenix…Also thought of Hawaii, Florida and Mexico…
From what you’ve shared, you’re older than me and your wife is 20 years younger, with no children. With properties all over the place, can your wife manage after …?
My wife is a property manager and realtor…She wants me to keep everything.I told her when I die, sell everything and get a boy toy…lol
This is a lot of house in Phoenix

I recently heard a good quote. “There’s liberal, and then there’s can’t do math liberal.” It was a liberal that said it ![]()
