Small claims court, where lawyers are not present, is an easy, cost-effective way to resolve differences, especially when many people submit their claims to Small Claims Court simultaneously, a “mass action” strategy. It takes minutes to submit claims; it takes minutes to appear in front of a judge.
In 1983, a group of organized, determined Burlingame residents won a victory against San Francisco International Airport concerning a noise issue aided by the “mass action” strategy that a lawyer had suggested. The residents filed identical suits in the San Mateo County small claims court every 100 days.
Don’t want airport noise, don’t live near an airport of the flight path. .But to have the convenience of a close airport and then to sue over it is ultimate in Chutzpah
Anyone think technology will reduce airport noise? Seems far fetched to me but consider electric cars.
I avoid buying property near busy roads. Majority of problem is acceleration noise and fumes, not rushing wind (white noise). As electric cars replace ICE, will property values increase in such areas?
Same question for aircraft, although time horizon is much longer. We may never get around fossil fuels for aircraft
I’m talking about psychology not raw db. Constant white noise is more soothing than zero white noise with the occasional asshole flooring it with a modified exhaust
