New York Story: Value Of Subway To Neighborhoods

Hopefully this will translate to us in Chinatown when the new Muni station finally goes online…

They’ll come up with any excuse to raise taxes. If property taxes are based on property value, then those people are already paying higher property taxes. Now they want to add an additional tax on top of that. Maybe they should address this:

“New York City Transit’s subway operating costs are high by both domestic and international standards—about 60 percent higher than those of the largest European systems, and 90 percent higher than in Chicago.”

The fares only cover half the cost of operating the NYC subway and buses. Tax payers subsidize $7B/yr in operating costs. That’s a loss of $823/yr per daily rider.

I’m not sure what it’ll take for people to realize public transit is good at one thing: creating massive amounts of taxes and government jobs. The cost efficiency is terrible, and that’s before you include the capital cost of maintenance and upgrades which are billions a year.

Whatever.
I wish we had that system of transportation in CA.

I remember when I could go from Hamford to NY without any inconvenience of the ICE then INS patrols.

Wait for Fearless Leader’s rapid fast choo choo train…

We should have flying cars by then, by the way…
