Ok, This is Getting Ridiculous

Why did you leave? For higher pay or slower lifestyle?

Why is it an ā€œorā€? Maybe it’s both?

Bingo, both! It doesn’t make sense to leave Apple unless you’re getting a promotion. The work-life balance was good when I started. It was nonexistent at the end. Also, I felt the company wasn’t special once Steve wasn’t running it. It’s been years now, and the only truly new products are the watch and Apple Pay. Everything else is just newer technology in products he created.

AirPods :grinning:, the second wearables. Three new products in 5 years, not bad.

haha, they are free with the phone.

I thought you have to spend ~$149 to get those; only the adapter and what not comes with the phone?

Anyhow, this Facebook veteran is pathetic. As a millennial I entered the workforce before this guy joined Facebook and even I could afford to buy a SFH. I definitely was not making six figures right out of college.

He might not have had the money.

I have a friend who is a CEO of a Tech startup. I asked him the same thing. The answer was that he needed to keep the money in the business at the time.

Again, if my grandparents and parents can work generally minimum wage jobs and scrape and scratch over years to buy a multi unit building in SF, surely this guy could have done it on 6 figures/yr. Booooo!!! Lame!!! Sit down!!!

He admitted that he started selling stock he was given pre-IPO to pay rent in 2012. There’s no reason he couldn’t have had a down payment by 2013 with 3 years of vested stock.

Again, I thought ALL Facebook employees were SO smart and ABOVE us all…

I think the difference is that your grandparents probably didn’t have the option to move elsewhere and attain a higher quality of life. Sure, this Facebook guy could knuckle down and start counting pennies, but why do that when he could move and have a much higher quality of life? What is wrong with that?

It sounds like he is a financial idiot, and clearly not a saver. But the point is that he could move elsewhere, maintain his financial illiteracy, and still have a great quality of life. Can you blame him?

A great quality of life for now. I am sure life will soon catch up with him.

Maybe he’ll have a great quality of life FOREVER. Because you know, science is developing a cure for old age.

Wow! So Denver is more screwed than the Bay Area? That’s fascinating!

Yup, I couldn’t believe it until I visited Boulder earlier this year.
Apparently all the rich folks are moving to Boulder to live near the ski hills - Boulder was at least similar $/sqft to that in Santa Clara, etc.

Well, that sounds like a lot of people that wonder why they don’t have anything. Not rocket science. I still expect someone that smart to do way better than our ancestors did regardless of their circumstances. Hard work and financial planning should be done at all levels. If you can’t ā€œmake itā€ with a golden spoon (job at FB) I can’t help you. No tears whatsoever for this clown.

Went skiing this winter in the Vail resorts…I felt poor. .Everything was expensive, A timeshare condo slopeside in Breckenridge was $1.5m just for Christmas week…The cheapest motel $200/n…Dinner $200/person…Wine 50% more than Cali…one day skiing at Vail $130…Denver is 2 hours away and the traffic is a nightmare to get to the slopes on the weekend!..Plus the lift lines are horrible on weekends…Much worst than Heavenly …Salt Lake City has better skiing, is closer to skiing and half the price…And South Lake Tahoe is even cheaper…Snow not as good, but the great sunny warmer weather and the lake make it the most attractive ski town in America…Vail was so cold you had to go inside a lot to warm up…Tahoe highs are 35-40 in mid winter…Colorado averages 25…we skied in below zero weather. .not fun…
