If you have the money, no brainer, stay in CA…
Livr and retire in wa, or texas. Save more, spend less.
Wish i had the guts to do that
Lots of stuff to do here though… again, what is life for, but to enjoy right?
I prefer NV or Arizona
Blazing hot though in both spots

The Tax Foundation interprets individual tax burden by what taxpayers actually spend in local and state taxes, rather than report these expenses from the state revenue perspective used by the Census Bureau. Its State and Local Tax Burden Rankings study reported that Americans paid an average rate of 9.9 percent in state and local taxes in 2012. According to the foundation, the five highest state-local tax states were:
New York 12.7 %
Connecticut 12.6%
New Jersey 12.2%
Illinois 11.0%
California and Wisconsin 11.0%
Long time to go for me but definitely not gonna retire here.
So simplistically speaking of course, who wouldn’t pay about a 1% more to be on familiar grounds and near family?
1% more compared to which state/s?
I have a feeling for e.g. Washington & states like it overall tax rates might be much lower.
Not true in Northern Nevada and Northern Arizona. Frankly would only consider for part time. Summer in Tahoe is paradise… and winter is for skiing. Even Vegas and Phoenix have perfect weather spring and fall. No rain 80 degree weather.
You have to look at your personal tax situation. California income tax is very progressive. That’s why the top 1% pay 48% of the taxes. The numbers given are averages and include a whole bunch of Californians that don’t have to pay state income tax. If you’re going to have a high income in retirement, then CA taxes are going to be high.
