San Francisco enjoys a major 'brain gain' from top tech talent, report says

San Francisco has been benefitting from other states’ “brain drains,” a new report says, as qualified tech talent leaves more traditional cities like Boston and New York for the roaring economic engine of the Bay Area.

A new report published by Los Angeles-based commercial real estate firm CBRE Group (NYSE: CBG) shows that San Francisco gained about 89,600 people with tech-focused degrees between 2011 and 2015.

In contrast to that, the " Scoring Tech Talent" report shows that Boston has the largest brain drain out of 40 cities in the country, with more than 17,200 people with such degrees leaving the city during the same time span.
