I have a friend on Alameda de las Pulgas in Menlo Park. Pulling out of her driveway is such a pain, I actually back in when I park so that I can see when I pull out. I’m amazed she hasn’t had an accident yet. Our child did almost get run over because he tried running out into the street. Luckily someone caught him before he did. He is literally lucky to be alive. I think the kid thing really throws safety into the issue. You have to park in the garage or have a gate to not worry every time they run off towards the car that they’re not going to run into the street. If they’re older, and have common sense, then less of an issue, but they can’t play out front.
People worrying about traffic on their streets can also petition to have speed bumps installed. I think that helps a lot. In my old house in San Jose some idiots sometimes treat my street as race track. I explored asking for speed bumps but didn’t follow through.
What about those roadside speedometers that flash at you when you go over grandma speed? Can you ask to have them installed?
There must be a reason and data to support speed bump. 1) Near by school crossing 2) Too many accidents at 25 miles speed road etc.
County/City will not install a speed bump without any reason. Every stop sign has a reason behind it. Every road speed limit is fixed based on various calculations.
They install temporary sensors, measure number of cars and their speed for a period of time like one or two months, review data and decide.
This is the main reason avoid high speed road.
Location, the rule of real estate, we can not change, but entire home can be Teardown to make brand new mansion !
There are streets with 25 miles speed limit, but traffic is high.
Google “Koch Ln, San Jose, CA 95125”. This road is connecting road, lot of stop signs, but still traffic.
Do not count on this speed limit. Just go and park your car near by the home at 9 am, 5 pm and 9 pm. Stay there 5 minutes and count how many cars are passing you within 5 minutes.
If there are two cars passing in one minutes, assume it is good. If there is one car every 5 seconds or 10 seconds, decide yourself whether you want to live there, esp safety of children and back out (pull out) traffic.
Nowadays, I do not even go to the road and see, but looking at google itself I find the traffic road (Koch Ln, San Jose, CA 95125)
