Some Up To Date Bay Area Rental Rate Figures

Here’s the data based on Capgemini (2013 US Wealth Report):

San Francisco Metro is more than 3x national average whereas San Jose Metro is 5x national average!!!

This does not include primary home. Including the home equity, ratio could be much higher. Maybe 10% of San Jose metro are millionaires

I’m wondering when people will realize SJ is economically beating SF.

SJ metro = Santa Clara county = SV?

when it becomes a destination city. People frankly in Kansas City are not going, hey honey let’s go to San Jose, CA for a week of R&R. They might say that for the Fab 7x7…

San Jose can never economically beat San Francisco. Maybe you are talking about Palo Alto+Mountain View+Cupertino economically beating San Francisco?

Even if you just count SJ vs. SF, SJ has higher median income.

Higher median income does not alone make a great city in the eyes of the masses because they don’t necessarily have that or are impacted by that. What impacts them? Again, something like leisure time or events. So, sports teams def help a city’s profile or at least helps to remain in the back of even the remotest sports fan. Let’s be honest, more people know San Antonio for the Spurs, not the Alamo.

Actually I think you might have overestimated SJ:

San Francisco
San Francisco
829,072
17,680.1
$49,986 <-- per cap income
$78,378
$93,391

San Jose
Santa Clara
986,320
5,586.0
$34,992 <-- per cap income
$83,787
$92,379

Per cap includes kids. SF is famous for having very few children living in it. Median income is a measure of actual working people.

Cupertino $55, 867, median household income 134,872.
Mountain View $56,156, median household income is $100,028.

San Jose still lost to San Francisco when median household income is taken into account. Sorry, all you San Jose fans… actually I’m quite neutral on this because I own houses both in SF and SJ…
