The middle class pretty much did it to themselves. Not willing to lower their wages in face of foreign competition and expect the government to bail them out with protectionism. Go work harder and expect less wage please.
It would take many generations for them to realize the world has more or less equalized i.e. Same skillsets, same diligence, same kind of work ⌠earn the same. Tech industry understood this. Other industries⌠hmmâŚThe premium position that USA has enjoyed for many decades post-War is coming to an end. However, I am not sure whether is the role of the government or education system that should help reset the expectation.
These entitled people will use a clown like Trump to attack foreign countries to their advantage. If they couldnât maintain their entitlement via protectionism, they could resort to war. All hell might break lose in the end. Letâs hope that wouldnât happen.
I believe previous POTUS are well aware of this rising protectionism. Sense it since landing here moons ago. Trump is the first POTUS to exploit the sentiments.
Who do you know that wants to work for less and a lower standard of living? No one is going to be excited about that and voluntarily do it.
Thatâs why they will resort to protectionism first and then war later. Anything to preserve their entitlement. Writing is on the wall.
Globalization is going on retreat. Thatâs the big trend everywhere from Brexit to Trump, to all these nationalists getting elected from east Europe to Latin America. Itâs a global trend.
Tech + globalization means much more efficiency and that improves everybodyâs life. Just look at the tiny closets of old houses and compare that with the humongous storage spaces modern houses have. But it also means the loss is concentrated in a few people who are just not competitive anymore.
There are really only two options. Either you unwind globalization and make everybody worse off. Or you retrain the losers and give them new skills to compete.
Who is calling for protectionism? You keep calling it that. The only thing people are advocating for is China removing tariffs and opening markets to competition. The tariffs are a negotiating tool to get there. No one is advocating for long-term tariffs on China.
The American middle class are the losers. Full of entitlement and like to blame foreigners. Trump can only help them so far. They better go learn some new skillset and move up the food chain.
Does China also have a 25% tariff on American imports? If so, then yes they should remove that. Let everyone compete fair and square without any kind of political intrigue.
Losers are losers for a reason. Killed them. Please follow law of the nature
No need. Section 8 welcome them with open arms.
Geez. Why are you getting so violent these days? Something happening (or not happening) in the bedroom?
Not happeningâŚ
I am a psychopath with anger issue
You are great. Canât say the same about a couple other people on this forum thoughâŚ
Theyâve been told that for years. But now, under Trump, wages are rising. Just look at eltâs report from Tahoe.
After Trump youâll never convince the American middle class of this again. And to a large extent is isnât true anyway. Weâve held ourselves back with too much regulation. Under Trump the page count of the CFR has dropped for the first time in over a generation. Thatâs huge. Much bigger than taxes or anything else.
Looking to the future the threat isnât war. Itâs revolution. Like a wife beater you can destroy a personâs ego, convince them everything is their own fault and constantly berate and disparage them and they will accept their miserable lot as normal and what they deserve. But give them hope and you can never take it away again. You get âHunger Gamesâ - revolution and civil war. Thatâs what the Left fears from Trump. Heâs made it impossible to control the unwashed masses and keep them under the thumb of the federal government.
Ok, then donât blame the techies for driving home prices sky high and move to the red heartland with its backward ways. You can hold on to entitlement but all youâll be getting in the end is backwardness and misery. Progress will forever leave you behind.
They do on American cars. Itâs been there for years. US has a 2.5% tariff on cars from China. So really the US is just matching what China has been doing for years.
Then both these tariffs need to be gone, ideally.
2.5% tariff on Chinese cars is laughable because no one here wants to buy a Chinese car even if thereâs 0 tariff.
