That was my understanding also. Also do you count as unemployed if you’re not collecting unemployment? And can restaurant workers collect unemployment? At what amount?

Yup. All a minimum wage raise does is put money in the pockets of landlords. Congrats on your raise, elt1.
Though admittedly, it also is a good raise for my teenager. 
Free rent, so his raise really is a hand up for his Roth IRA and retirement.

Here’s a much smarter approach than UBI or a higher minimum wage. Help people het higher paying jobs. The economic growth potential is tremendous.

That’s literally the same number of people that’d benefit from a higher minimum wage. Instead of handing them more money for the same job, help them get better jobs.

So, I am as liberal as they come and I am okay with bringing automation and job losses -most of these low paying jobs suck and the people who have them don’t even want them. So why not give people a little kick in the butt to go make a change to upskill and get higher paying jobs?

I was unclear. 50 years of affirmative action for African Americans was totally non productive. Obviously immigrants do better because our system of PC white guilt does not work.

The only way to do that is to have them work the boring jobs and realize they want to move up.
Also, there are people who are fine with repetitive manufacturing jobs. From what I understand mildly functional autistic kids (not the brilliant savants) are very comfortable with repetitive jobs.

Immigrants are by definition selected groups. Those who leave their homelands and go to other nations tend to be more entrepreneurial and hardworking, some of them are very smarts e.g. those* that go to SV.
