My only question is, who is our bigger enemy, Jay Powell or Chairman Xi?"
I’m the god, whatever I do is the right thing to do.

‘It’s devastating’. End of GM in Ohio town as Trump fails to bring back midwest jobs
The closing of the Lordstown factory came after GM said it would cut 14,700 jobs across four plants in the midwest and Canada. That announcement, in November 2018, was in stark contrast to Trump’s election pledge to bring back auto jobs to the region.
Today the plant, which looms behind a “Welcome to Lordstown” sign at the entry to the village, stands as a testament to the hollowness of that promise. In mid-August it was possible to drive into the complex, where huge parking lots – once full of new cars, but now completely empty, with brown weeds growing from cracks in the concrete – stretch as far as the eye can see.
Trade war may not make much sense economically, but it makes perfect sense geopolitically. First step to wage cold war on China is to sever commercial and financial ties.
This is not a trade war. Is USA’s goal of maintaining its only superpower status in the world. Trump is signaling to the world, it can take on many nations simultaneously and can contain an ascending superpower easily. I believe the last stand for USA is to go into isolation i.e. not trading with any nations.
Nah. US just agreed on a trade deal framework with Japan. Canada and Mexico already knelt down to Trump. EU seems to be getting into line as well. Britain after Brexit has no power at all and will do whatever US tells it.
It’s China that’s getting isolated. China has also peaked. Xi wrecked it.
Is an ex-HK view impartial? I think you have color blindness too
Everyone does. You don’t?
You seem to be assuming there was free trade before the trade war. It was completely lopsided. The trade war is to get to free trade.
It is a case of a rich man no longer able to afford giving preferential treatment. Instead of admitting that, blame others for unfair practices.
Huh!
90% of Canadians don’t like China. A new Pew survey shows 60% of Americans have unfavorable view of China. Consensus is forming among the liberal democracies that China is a threat. Good job Emperor Xi.
FIFY. Look at the graph carefully!
I see you always misinterpret what I have said. One fake white.
Donald Trump has rowed with his fellow G7 leaders over his demand that Russia be readmitted to the group, rejecting arguments that it should remain an association of liberal democracies, according to diplomats at the summit in Biarritz.
I am not clever enough. Which part of the graph I should concentrate on?
As you said earlier I am color blind. I don’t see colors. There is no Chinese science vs western science. Science is science. Similarly there is no Chinese conscience vs western conscience. Conscience is conscience.
From where Trump becomes POTUS.
Actually there is a difference. Science and conscience change through time too.
The G7 is composed of the seven wealthiest advanced countries. The People’s Republic of China, according to its data, would be the second-largest with 16.4% of the world net wealth,[2] but is excluded because the IMF and other main global institutions do not consider China an advanced country and because of its relatively low net wealth per adult and HDI.[85][12]
@manch, Is China a poor or rich nation? An advanced or emerging economy?
Notice die-die want Russia to be in G7.
How about from when Xi became chairman in 2012? First two years of Trump China got a favorability bump, but this year it just got back up to trend.
China itself said it’s still an emerging economy and thus should be treated that way in WTO. Should we trust China in its own words?
Good. Graph is worthless
IMF said so too. So is China an emerging or advanced economy in your opinion?
Talk is free. Guess who’s not “invited”?
Is what I’m hinting at. Is either an advanced or emerging economy. If emerging, then WTO benefits. If advanced, then invitation to G7 (not sure when liberal economy is a requirement). I wonder whether you see the r… or other intent in play i.e. not about fair trade, is about controlling the world for the benefits of …
Edit: Added fair
That’s not the point. Not to hijack this thread, but it doesn’t matter who the beneficiaries are, the main goal here is to deter further obstruction to global democracy. In this case, everyone is at stake.
Did you mean this is your interpretation of the goal of the tariff war?
What is meant by Make America Great Again?
Louder say geo-politically?
Economically and financially stronger?
Stronger influence over global trade, politics, economy, …
The Fed is thinking globally despite Trump’s push for an ‘America First’ monetary policy
