Trading wars impact

Fear is still mild.

I have gotten to a point where I’m almost immune to all threats of a downturn. I will probably be the last guy holding the bag and the last one standing…

My goal is to have an active business to give me cash flow before next doen turn, so i can use it to buy stuff for cheap!

The trough for the next downturn could be higher than prices today.

Doesnt matter. Buy buy buy!

Business is a lot riskier than being an employee or RE investment or stock investment. We only hear about business success. Those passive business you have talked about, don’t think they can scale well or throw out much cash. So, THINK BIGGER and take the risk of boom or bust! At your age, experiment!

Well, maybe - maybe not, but i do not think most of the businesses i particularly talked about are super risky.

Most of them are not very risky and hence can’t throw out cash much. Btw, business becomes the most risky when it is taking off  not starting, at most you lose your initial capital at starting. However, you can lose much more when taking off. I’m not sure LLC would protect your wealth that much because you most likely pump more of ā€˜your’ money into the business at taking off.

That’s when you find ā€œVCsā€ and use other people’s money to scale your business.

VCs are not stupid, if you don’t have much of your money pumped in, they won’t invest.

Yes, you need to have exhausted your own money as well.

Some of my money, some other people’s money.

A brick/mortar business with 3x multiplier doesn’t sound too exciting, but it’s good source of income - which you can invest in RE/stocks as it comes.

I am working with a partner now (a PM that i trust) to execute on that plan. we shall see what happens next.

Could be time consuming to maintain. Almost another full time job.

My buddy (who is a director that’s trying to hire me to his new team) is all hands-off, and trying to acquire a second one. I might take up on his job offer, and learn his secrets for his side gig!

There’s no doubt it will be time consuming initially, but i’d take that 1-2 year of effort to learn and stuff then scale it.

No one is expecting ā€œhey here is one and half million dollar, go give me 500K every year in returnā€, no free dim sum lunch.

Ok, introduce me to the technique as well after you learned it. I’ll see if I can piggyback.

Hah - well maybe at some point if i still hang around i can tell with pride

My full time job doesn’t scale. I’m about to be level 7, but what’s the up side - it will get harder and more political over time to climb the corporate ladder, so i will soon hit a ceiling both level wise and money wise. I have better things to do before i hit 35

Don’t say that… your statement can take a psychological toll on people who are already over 35.

I am paying that psychological toll since i came to silicon valley
