What is Facebook doing!

Is that unique to Apple? Why would that skew the results compared to other companies?

Looking for confirmation to existing bias? :smiling_imp:

The demands got crazy with the growth from iPhone. I honestly don’t get why people stay other than they get a ton of value from telling people they work for Apple. There’s a lot of stress related health problems, and people were swapping fast and slow acting ambien before they made the mixed version. Ambien was the only way they could sleep with the stress levels. There was a pretty heavy drinking culture too.

@manch @wuqijun left unhappy  too. However, his and @marcus335’s opinions are not as heavily influenced by personal experience, more influenced by observation.

Correct. Cultural difference  Don’t you think the secretive and controlled culture is kind of go against the mainstream American culture? I believe people like you who leave HK to escape the controlled influence of CCP doesn’t like Apple culture. In general I am more interested in the profile of the people who vote rather than the outcome, prefer both so I can do meaningful analysis.

Huh? So why did those who are happy at Facebook participated but those at Apple didn’t.

Cultural difference :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: Perhaps, social group is a better term. Two different type of social group, community, (whichever is the right word). Remember late SJ is a very private person, so is Tim Cook. Mark shows photos of his babies. Up to now, we don’t even know the name of TC’s partner. So if you belong to Mark camp type of personality, you would hate to work in Apple.

a

Did you work in the era when Scott Forstall and Tony Fadell are around? I heard that during SJ era, he is in a rush and these two guys are competing fiercely resulting in high stress & “backstabbing”, things have calm down a lot under TC esp after both guys left.

No need to get so contorted to fit disagreeing data into your existing worldview.

While you can choose to ignore Apple’s bad reputation among super achievers like @Boolean, don’t you think the fact that it has such bad reputation will hinder its hiring? No wonder Siri continues to be trash and latest versions of MacOS and iOS are crap.

I am ignoring his wife’s view. He didn’t work in Apple unlike @wuqijun and @marcus335.

Siri is bad because Apple insists on using only limited data. May be sometime in the future, it may prove to be the right thing to do. For OS issues, Apple still can’t find a strategy to match Google’s and FB’s pay without making those hardware guys unhappy. So I believe they didn’t get the best SWEs. Also, Apple prefers you to like the Apple way rather than pay you the highest possible. Want me to say something nasty about current CS majors and make enemies?

As AI becomes more and more important, Apple’s SW talent deficit will hurt it more and more. The two guys you chose to listen to left Apple as well.

This is the problem for SVP(People), Dierdre, to solve.

I don’t remember Fadell, but Forstall was running software. I was there when Jobs ran the company, took medical leave, came back, and passed away. There was a lot of tension over who was going to lead the design stuff. The ops side was super stable as Tim Cook’s top people stayed.

Finance was a mess. Betsy Rafael was brought in to takeover as CFO. She brought in a bunch of Cisco people who started to push out long-time Apple people. My mentor was fired and 2 weeks later hired by the business team. I’ve never seen anything like that. She ended up “retiring” suddenly. Rumor was her drinking was an issue and she was given the choice of rehab or resign. She retired effective immediately. That created this huge power vacuum and even more backstabbing, since there was already an Apple vs Cisco conflict.

Cramer isn’t concerned about future M&A, however, he said the injunction points to larger ethos and culture problems at Facebook.

The more successful those two are, the case against FB by FTC is stronger.

FB style, if can’t buy the competition, release a similar app. Investigate!

Zuckerberg’s Jealousy Held Back Instagram and Drove Off Founders

The Facebook CEO promised Kevin Systrom independence, but an excerpt from Sarah Frier’s book No Filter shows that only lasted until Instagram started to look like the favorite son.
