I found this chart in an analysis of Cisco stock.

I am not sure how accurate Goldman’s analysis is but if that chart is even 50% accurate it means that there are bad things in store for tech company earnings later this year.

Recession? What recession?

How much is Bezos’ ex-wife worth now? 100B?

I get the less capital, since companies buy less in their own data centers and buy more cloud services. I have no idea how less on services is possible though. We are spending more:

  1. Higher fees for zoom due to WFH
  2. More soft phones for sales and customer support WFH, since they can’t use their desk phone
  3. More VPN bandwidth since everyone is WFH.
  4. Extra peripherals since people are WFH and the company wants them to have a good setup.
  5. We added linked in learning, since they have a lot of training on working and leading remotely.

We haven’t decreased spending on anything.

No recession means Trump wins.

This chart is good, we can compare after 6 months.

Reminder we are still in a deep recession. Small business revenue is still 23% below last year’s level.

Sectors of recession stays with S&P - such as airlines, entertainment industries, hotels, restaurants
etc.

Has anyone been watching stuff on youtube and noticed the uptick in VRBO ads? Pretty clever. “Since schooling can be done anywhere, why not go somewhere else?”

Pretty compelling I must say!

Business travel is coming back for the same reason that suits always come back.

Suits are cyclical. Almost all offices go casual late in the cycle. Then the economy rolls over and a few months into the recession, someone shows up at the office wearing a suit because they are worried about their job. The next day everyone is wearing a suit.

Business travel will be the same. Every business will try to avoid travel and stay on Zoom. But then one company, struggling with sales, will send their sales representatives on the road and conversions will increase. The next quarter all of their competitors will be on the road. The same will go for conferences, for diligence, for deals, for executive retreats, for everything.

Business travel will come back.

That’s my theory all along. Having zoom meetings with clients is fine until your competitors scoop in and wine-and-dine, play golf and steal them. It’s an unstable equilibrium. The moment one company resumes business travel every company will follow.

Wine-and-dine, play golf, and give them Covid.
