AAPL and Apple

The article is quite vague and can be misleading. What is the effect or implication? Is it # of employees, # of physical locations, # of suppliers (home base), or money to be made?

In terms of # of employees, the final assembly sites for iPhone hire the most employees. Order of magnitude more than other suppliers. As article mentioned, these are Foxconn (Honghai), Pegatron, Wistron. All 3 are Taiwanese companies. All 3 use factory in China for Apple’s iPhone. For sure, Apple’s has significant reliance on China. This has not changed in at least 10 years.

In terms of # of suppliers, there are many other Taiwanese companies operating in China. So are those counted as Taiwanese or Chinese? I assume the data is looking at # of suppliers or # of suppliers + physical locations. If it is # of suppliers, that is a shift. If it is talking about suppliers + locations, then that can be misleading, as majority of Taiwanese companies operate factories in China.

Lastly, where and who is making money? The largest value added components (or money to be made by suppliers) are display, 5G chip, SOC, RAM, and camera. And presumably final assembly labor cost.

https://www.iphonehacks.com/2020/11/iphone-12-pro-reveals-cost-price-apple.html

iPhone display is made by Samsung (Korean operating in Korea and Vietnam). 5G chip is made by Qualcomm in Taiwan. SOC is made by TSMC in Taiwan. RAM is made by Korean and American companies (not sure where they are made). Camera is made by Sony in Japan; and assembly in Vietnam or China. As mentioned earlier, final assembly is done by Foxconn, Pegatron, Wistron (all Taiwanese company operating in China). So the money made by suppliers are mainly by other countries.

So really, I don’t see any change in status quo, as the article implies.

Zuck crashing the Apple watch party.

Expected move. Not depending on Apple and Google is a bonus. To have a complete metaverse ecosystem, FB needs a glass (Oculus), a hand band (watch), an ear plug and handheld device.

The battleground is metaverse… I think I need to beef up my holdings in U… may be add in VUZI, RBLX, SPOT, etc. What else did I miss?

you only seeing the final name supplier. not the supplier dependency upstream.
for example Samsung Vietnam or Samsung itself is depended on China.

If Taiwan was adding that much value to supply chain than why Taiwan has only $6B of trade surplus per month? It has small population and not the kind of population or government that splurge on luxuries or gigantic projects.

South Korea has only $3b trade surplus. spending much more on R&D.

Germany has $20B a month Surplus. Much bigger population and spend much more on luxuries and R&D. I deliberately exclude Resource rich countries. German car final assembly in Germany but it has parts coming from all over EU.

Apple still refuse to announce when it is going to launch Apple Car officially.

Apple has made building manufacturing facilities in the United States a condition for potential battery suppliers, said two of the sources.

A senior official in U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration confirmed that condition on Tuesday.

AAPL to double again in … years  Sitting on your hands work :money_mouth_face:

Apple needs to sort out iPad production first. I’m still waiting for the new iPad pro with larger screen. It should be here in 2-3 weeks.

If it is Made In China car with Apple logo with global export than it may work. China may force liquidate the Tesla Shanghai plant and change it into Apple car production. Chinese still not exporting Chinese made Tesla to US.

@hanera Is it a good time to take some AAPL? Or is it advisable to wait a bit?

.

Take as in buy? Frankly I have not been following AAPL chart for a long time. For me, I didn’t buy nor sell AAPLs for like decades. Looking at the chart, it has been going sideways since Sep 2020  look poise to make a big move soon… breakout or breakdown… your judgement call. The problem now is the macro condition… is it going to be continuation of the bull market or start of a bear market?

Just curious, what is your use case for the above?

It’ll be my main device. I got the keyboard for it. I think I’ll end up using my laptop very little.

Pramila Jayapal going after Apple? Is it a civil war between left, or a staged friendly match?

.

Using my super duper PET formula, won’t consider AAPL resume bull trend till it crosses above the purple line. Take note that AAPL has dropped below the pitchfork and is retesting the lower pitchfork line, has to break above that and purple line to resume bull trend.

PET = Pitchfork, EWT, Trend lines

Apple needs to drop Fed Ex as delivery partner. My iPad left for final delivery on Friday at 3:43 AM. All day yesterday, Fed Ex said my iPad would be delivered that day. Then around 6:00 PM, they suddenly removed the expected delivery date from the status and replaced it with ā€œunknown delivery date.ā€ The status hasn’t changed. There have been no new scans, and the delivery date is still ā€œunknownā€. Maybe that means the truck didn’t deliver everything yesterday, so they just leave it in the truck over night? So there’s no scan from it returning to the facility.

I talked to my old co-worker who hooked me up with the discount on the order. Fed ex delivery is the #1 complaint Apple receives.

I never have issues with Amazon or UPS.
