AI's Investment Implications

I’m honestly getting exhausted by all the inequality discussion. We shouldn’t be trying to create equal outcomes. It’s also impossible to create equal opportunity unless we create some seriously draconian rules on who’s allowed to have children or have the government raise all children in boarding programs. Does either option appeal to anyone?

The goal should be for everyone to have opportunity regardless of starting position. America has that better than any country. There’s a reason so many immigrants can move here and despite disadvantages, they become successful. What other country offers that? The issue is people born here feel entitled and are allergic to hard work.

The real problem with America is our original sin—-slavery. The liberal guilt and black culture won’t let it go and it will bring us all down.
I thought this was resolved 50 years ago but the liberal media has brought this back. There is nothing good that will happen with reparations or liberal guilt. Immigrants are our only hope… they don’t carry this baggage.

This goes all the way back to Obama blaming autotellers for job losses.

True but that’s not all. Deliberate domestic and foreign actors spend lots of money and energy to push the society into gorge.

They are now passing laws on caste system (something US never saw). They are banning SAT (something immigrants do well on). They are destroying women’s games etc. (everyone agreed women had short end). They are just equal opportunity misery seeker and instinctively hate any progress and happiness.

Russian and Chinese propaganda is feeding off and adding to American misery. The bots and internet misinformation is trying to take Americans down. We saw this all in the 60s . We were weakened then by the Vietnam war and racial strife. This chaos benefits no one including our enemies.

Inverse relationship between income and AI optimism. The poorer countries are more enthusiastic about AI.

“Indigenous” folk are upset. I guess the rest of us are ripe for “harvesting.”

Immigration is America’s superpower. 29% of top AI researchers come from China but only 11% work there today. Where do they go? America. We have a whopping 59% of top tier AI researchers working here.

ChatGPT-like feature is dead easy to implement. Feel like a simple tech.

It’s pretty easy and inexpensive to implement for text. It’s FAR more expensive to implement on speech, because first you have to convert speech to text which is expensive. My guess is text based will become a free feature people expect. Speech based will be a premium product that costs money.

I don’t see how Grammarly or similar companies will survive. The functionality will become a free part of mail and chat tools.

GPT-3 is open source. Anyone can just download the source, tweak it a bit and claim they are “doing AI”. Starting from 3.5 on it’s no longer open source. And there is a big difference in quality between the latest version and GPT-3.

GPT-3 has 175B parameters. GPT-4 is rumored to have over 100T. 1000x difference.

Besides software, China can’t access the latest Nvidia chips. Nvidia has to make a watered-down version just for the Chinese market. And that cap won’t move. As chips get better and faster China will be left further and further behind. They can’t train models with that many trillions of parameters.

Wait. Didn’t Elon say AI is dangerous and OpenAI should stop for 6 months? Turns out he’s secretly building out an AI team inside Titter?

Why am I not surprised?

ChatGPT is :-1:

Elon Musk :-1: Can’t believe some people always support whatever he said/ claimed.

Btw, I am still waiting for the “correction” many bears are saying would come… Need to up my NVDA investment :moneybag:

Godfather of AI is right that ChatGPT is not remarkable. Can’t be improved much. It, at best, replaces only the incompetent SWEs.

Technology always move faster than regulations and societal adaptation. What is the message? Let’s it be or we can’t afford for AI to move too fast?

I tend to be in that camp. I don’t even have a problem with folk cloning themselves if that’s what they want to do.
