How Silicon Valley is helping the Pentagon in the AI arms race

A little OT.
Someone asked AI to show how Europeans see Americans from various states.
LOL - I’m shooting to be that Arizona guy.

Look like Software Engineering industry would be flooded with amateur SWEs just like journalism, investment & trading and entertainment industry. We need a way to identify the outstanding  guys. We need a BBB for these industries.

In the future, median pay of a SWE would plummet, yes @manch would be wrong again in his prediction. Ofc Superstars would command a premium, has always been so eg musicians and actors… the rest get :peanuts: to :zero:

Did SWE salary increase or decrease after compilers were invented? Did SWE get paid more when they programmed in punch cards?

Historically, whenever the productivity increased salary also increased. Why would AI be any different?

AI job boom. How many of these AI jobs are in SF?

The $900,000 AI Job Is Here Salaries rise as employers such as Netflix and Walmart seek candidates with artificial-intelligence skills

This is not a proof that median pay has increased.

CA is #1, but it’s only 17.9% of the total. That’s pretty small considering the percent of VC money raised in California. California is getting well over 50% of the funding but only 17.9% of the jobs…. I’m not a math major, but I think that means California startups are doing most of their hiring outside of California. That means most of the exit windfall will happen outside of California. I look forward to your pivot in the face of overwhelming math that goes against you.

Are these startup jobs?

50% of the AI startup funding. 18% of AI jobs in all firms, some may not even be tech companies, certainly most aren’t startups.

You seem to be mixing things up, something math majors tend not to do.

Did I make it too complicated using words too?

Lightcast defines an AI job posting as any job posting that requires at least one skill in AI, such as machine learning or natural language processing

machine learning is more stabilized and not surprised it’s distributed almost equally. I don’t know if they are talking about pre gen ai NLP since they show data from 2010. I think the high funding now is in Gen AI. The transformer architecture which all LLM’s are using was published in 2017.
