Right. Sad day for California. CA’s biggest advantage just got leveled out.
OT but I’m still on the Google group for La Honda, the CA town I left. Rained out, landslided in, no power, etc etc. And then the bombshell. The local dog groomer, who lives in a small trailer park on the north side of 84 (the “aluminum estates” in local parlance) just had his dog grabbed by a mountain lion. The lion jumped an 8ft fence to get it. The guy was less than 6ft from the dog when it got snatched.
Here in AZ we hunt cougars. They don’t go near people.

Frisco was the fastest-growing city in the United States in 2017,[7] and also from 2000 to 2009.
Frisco has a foreign-born population of 19.8%. Unlike many cities in Texas with a large Hispanic or Latino minority, Asians make up the largest minority in Frisco which has one of Texas’ highest Asian populations. The city has large communities of people from India, South Korea, Japan, and China. Indians account for the largest share of Asians in Frisco and other cities in DWF and the Indian community now makes up 14% of the population of Collin County.
SF DT is fast deteriorating. If a new leadership didn’t emerge in time, is another Detroit.
Is it a surprise that CA is tax friendly for the middle class? They aren’t owning homes in the areas with the highest home values thus highest property taxes. They are using the state median home value of $300k to calculate the property tax burden. The state income tax is super progressive with the top 1% paying a huge share of what’s collected.
They rate Michigan poorly because it’s a flat 4.25% income tax. That shows how little income tax median income California families pay. Sales tax is 6% with no local adders. Property taxes are higher per $100k of home value, but home values are MUCH lower.
Bay Area is fighting its way back.
International immigration is recovering from Trump/Covid years:
But a U.S. Census data estimate released last month found that net migration to the U.S. from abroad in 2022 reached its highest level since 2017. California is expected to be the biggest beneficiary of this uptick, with more than 125,715 new residents coming to the state last year.
“Over the last 15 years or so, immigration from Asia has become the leading origin of migrants to California,” Johnson said. “A lot of that is tied to opportunities in tech. […] Immigrants from Asia tend to be some of the most highly educated residents of the state.”
The Bay Area remains the center of the tech world, even amid larger volatility in the sector.
Bay Area in general and SF in particular still is the mecca of tech. SF even has a neighborhood for AI:
Up max rate from 13.3% to 16%.
Increase pardon from $500 to $2000.
They claim it won’t add much demand to the grid. By that logic, then they must not use much natural gas so why bother?
like TX?
…
TLDR. What are the similarities?
Is SF same as CA?
Bill to ban Chinese citizens and government from buying Texas land gains steam among Republicans
Chinese immigrants with green card only are still citizens of China. Will they also be banned from buying properties in Texas? Why not ban them from doing business in Texas as well?
… citizens, governments and entities from China, Iran, North Korea and Russia…
“If signed into law, this bill would make anti-Asian hate state policy,” the Houston chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations said Friday. "It would violate the fundamental rights of not only citizens of other countries regardless of their relationship to their governments, but also Green Card holders and possibly dual citizens.”
“We oppose communist countries, right?” he asked. “Where’s Cuba? Where’s Venezuela? Where’s Vietnam? You say that we oppose countries that are hostile to our country? Great, where is Saudi Arabia? Where is Pakistan? Where are all these other places that have caused our country harm? It becomes a real slippery slope.”
Florida should learn from Texas’ example and ban Chinese. In fact, every state with GOP governors should do the same. Time to teach Chinese a lesson!
Probably the dumbest idea on the planet. The stupidity of BAy Area bureaucrats is astounding. Where do they think electricity comes from? natural gas generation is a big part of it.
The US government owns over 50% of the land west of the Mississippi. That’s the real problem - not the Chinese government, the North Korean government or the Russian government.
