Is the article above essentially trying to say that because FANG companies are prospering, the small business owners and landlords (who have not received rents for last one year) are doing good in California? And that Newsom recall effort is misplaced? And the stories of people and the companies that are leaving California are false. I find it funny that Mr Bloomberg spent $900 million in his Presidential primary that did not go anywhere would be also a publishers of a magzine that cannot get the story right. Good economic reporting?
GDP per capita is not accurate measure as than you have to add children, elderly that not produce income etcā¦
for example San Francisco Mayor has i believe half Million dollar salary. (which will be much higher than comparable Chinese civil servants).
but SF Mayor and all there employees salaries depend on asset prices of San Francisco. Asset prices of SF entirely depend on stock market. You can extrapolate to whole state of California.
The correct way of looking at per capita income is the disposable income spend on luxuries. (The people who cannot afford luxuries mean either there income for what ever reason cannot exceed there expenses for that area).
Now we can look at various products or services to measure luxuries.
The most easy thing is to quantifiy is measure of premium vehicle sales. If you combine (German/Italian/French/British/Korean/Japanese) (I excluded Tesla) premium vehicle sales in China and compared it to US. the gap closer to 10 to 1. and that 10 to 1 is measure Chinese wealth relative to US.
Just to give idea what i am talking about. A3L, A4L, A6L, Q5L. The L is the lengthened version of cars that sold here. Chinese cars are bigger and more luxurious.

ALL New Audi A3L Limousine
Big change, new opening
.
Interesting.
How about using iPhone per million ![]()
Chinese have much more choices in mobile phones.
Well the most expensive version with biggest storage will be one of measure but i doubt Apple publish that detail figures.
Sort the last column.
Ok, so California is below Iowa in the adjusted per capita personal income. Does this explains why in the last decade Real Estate in Sioux City, Iowa has appreciated at about same rate as real estate in Sunnyvale, CA.
Not sure.
My link was to show that after cost of living adjustments, CA is middle of the pack in terms of āincomeā/capita.
Bloomberg did an story today on workers taking pay cut to relocate out of SFO and New York. They mentioned a company named Stripe.
Stripe is fin tech
The article mentioned the pay cut was only in the range of 10%.
It is so funny. The media in California creates an impression that low tech manual labour is emigrating to Texas and other states. But, 10% pay cut is not a drastic pay cut given that 3 to 5 times reduction in housing cost in Texas. And then no income tax (but property tax - which is good because property taxes are spent locally in the community as opposed to handed out to politically important groups)
I wish I could post the article but it was behind a paywall.
They are still deciding where to build. price of construction , machinery and logistic keep going up.
So they will give money to tenants for rent they didnāt pay and just expect/hope they will pay it to their landlord for rent? I donāt get why the money doesnāt go directly to the landlord the way section 8 works. I predict a disaster as people will blow the money on other stuff and not pay the rent.
I am happy (or I hope) that nation does not follow California/NY any more.
.
Donāt look at the wrong metric. Talking about RE price
You have 10 years to prove yourself correct. No need to grab whatever straw threw to you. Seven days passed⦠plenty of timeā¦

why none of the east Asian cities in the list above? Shanghai, HK, SG, Guangzhou ,Tokyo, Taipei etc
Should I take as someone is trying hard at joking by putting Toronta ahead of Austin. Or should I not?
I care about new business formation. Not only new business, but future trillion market cap mega corporations. The fools overpaying for Austin McMansions work for one of these companies.
This thread is a grab bag of California bashing all over the map. Maybe you can tell your fellow CA haters to focus on RE only as well?
