Cost for a permit to repair a sidewalk

It costs $2,000 dollars for a permit to repair a sidewalk in San Diego. No wonder the city is getting sued for millions of dollars every year because of sidewalks that are in need of repair.

This probably has a story behind it. It’s unusually high. Are the costs of other types of permit fees in San Diego in line with other cities?

Seattle charges $400+/hr for permit review. The exact amount depends on the type of permit. They also all have a minimum number of hours regardless of how long review takes. Now we know city employees aren’t making $800k/yr, so the markup on permits is huge.

It only costs $150 to get a permit in Los Angeles. The sidewalks are mostly on city property but homeowners are required to repair them. That why the city is getting sued for them because they have deeper pockets.
