Hopefully You Didn't Buy That New Appliance At Sears

That’s why people use the extended warranty coverage offered by their credit cards.

Extended warranty coverage is a rippoff…$229 to cover a refrigerator that cost $500…Stupid…I just bought a 2 year old refrigerator for $80…They aren’t worth repairing. .The one year manufacturer warranty is good enough

The warranty concept itself is a ripoff. Normal appliances don’t break within the first three years. Just use your credit card to buy appliance and it comes with free extended coverage (usually one year beyond manufacturer warranty).

Actually they do. In fact, just had one break–1.5 years. :frowning:

There’s a reason extended warranties are offered. They are a profit creator. The profit margins are often 40-60%. That’s better than the actual product.

More to the point, for that price, when something goes wrong, you simply call up Sears and ask them to come service the item. At that point, they’ll ask if you want to buy a 1 year warranty for about $200 or so, and you go ahead and do it since it’d cost that to have the guy out.

Honestly, they don’t make appliances/electronics like they used to. When the products were made in Japan specifically for example those electronics and cars were bullet proof. Nowadays, forget about it…

I agree. Nothing lasts that longer anymore.

Nowadays, most appliances containing electronics only have 7-8 years lifespan, and worse many use plastic parts instead of stainless steel so fail a lot faster. The only pro is get to have the latest  model after 7-8 years.

Somehow that sounds like a perk for the wife, but the husband? not so much. Unless the appliance is a car.
