The real truth. Well, if you can deal with 7 months of 90% humidity at 90 degrees F and the temperature doesn’t really drop at night( I’ve been in the jungles of Indonesia and Africa and it’s more comfotable than Houston). The winter is 90% humidity and so 40 degress F is very cold… a wet cold. Also 60% of the petrochemical industry (globally…yep its true) is pretty much right next to the city. So the pollution mixed with the humidity and heat gets a lot of people sick and it seems that 50% have bad allergies. Traffic is very bad and self-inflicted (many streets do not allow left turns which not only slows things down but is very dangerous for pedestrians, bike riders. City is covered with little Memorials of where people were killed on their bikes. If you love the outdoors this is not your town. The city is very liberal inside the loop (almost always have Democratic mayors) and very conservative in the suburbs. We have a lot very wealthy people (undoubtedly the most houses in excess of 20,000 square feet in the nation) a big middle class and surprisingly small ghettos. You can find a job here and cost of living is very low for a big city. People who work at the the chemical plants can make a lot of money and some people with no education of any kind make six figures (we may have the world’s only blue-collar Yacht Club down in Clearlake near NASA) Food is very good and it’s a super diverse city with a higher than average Hispanic population and Asian population and a surprisingly smaller African American population (African Americans make up 12% of the United States and about 8% in Houston and less than 50% are Caucasian and many from the Middle East, Europe and Africa).

People get along here very well… the mix seems to work though unlike in almost all big cities the homicide rate has not dropped very much. So people are here to work and the schools are good. You can get anything here (chances are we make it here…). There are miles and miles of industrial manufacturing throughout the suburbs. We have by far the most successful entrepreneurs who have their headquarters and Manufacturing in Houston. Only New York City has more corporate headquarters than Houston. So a lot of big company CEOs have homes here as well. Unlike what most people think all the money is here and not in any way… in Dallas. We are 4th most populated city in the US and will pass Chicago this year to be number 3.

We have very nice people and many say they love the outdoors…but they cough a lot…. We do have the largest Medical Center on Earth… and specialize in cancer so much that if you have cancer you come here to go to our hospitals. Its the best city to travel from with the shortest and most direct flights.

We have a very young population and big night life. More people eat out in the city of Houston than any other city in the United States ( that includes New York City). We do have lots of large churches, Joel Osteen’s being the largest and a surprisingly small number of Catholic churches. We do have lots of mosques and a middle eastern part of town with very nice people and great food. The Vietnamese population is so large that downtown many street Signs in the south part of downtown/midtown are in Vietnamese. So it’s unique for sure and you can get anything that you want here… except what many would consider a nice day (we get about 30 days of very nice weather a year). But people who move away always seem to come back in about 5 years…so there’s something to like about the city regardless of the things you think that keep people away.

Jungle is pretty good  Been to jungles of Taiwan and Indonesia

Cancerous city?

Houston? We have a problem.
