Elected leaders and property owners stress the programs are designed for hardship cases, and healthy, employed renters should make their monthly payments. The ordinances allow for rent deferrals, not cancellation, for those effected by the pandemic. Tenants must also provide proof that they have been harmed.
In Santa Clara County, the moratorium covers every residential and small business tenant, including those within city borders. Tenants will have 120 days to pay back rent due to the emergency. Tenants must be able to provide proof to landlords of lost income or personal, medical expenses related to the coronavirus emergency. The order went into effect immediately after approval by county supervisors on Tuesday, and will last until May 31.
Why didn’t they pass mortgage relief for landlords whose tenants don’t pay due to Coronavirus? It’s getting so tenants have more rights than property owners. Criminals have more rights than law-abiding citizens. Illegals are getting more benefits than citizens.
Yes. Tenants renewed with a $50/mo increase. They are both in tech, so I’m sure they’re working remote during it. I definitely worry about the anti landlord mob mentality. It’s insane. I’d probably sell if I could take the gains tax free into stocks. Eventually, I’ll do the SF dragon boy move and 1031 for a rental that’ll turn into my home after a few years.
I got answer to my own question about San Mateo county. It is possible but on a day by day basis
"The County can’t extend the due date of property taxes. This is under state jurisdiction; however, the Board of Supervisors did pass a resolution that if the Health department extends the Shelter in Place beyond April 7th, the late fees would be waived until the office opens back up. I have attached the resolution for you to read. "
I double checked that you don’t need to pay via the office, to take advantage of this (although that is the reason behind it) The resolution applies to payment of any means.
The City of Hayward announced today a new grant program to provide $5000 a piece to local small businesses to support operations and help avert layoffs during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
The COVID-19 Small Business Resiliency Grant Program is open to Hayward small businesses with 25 or fewer employees and restaurants of any employee-size that are independently owned.
The Hayward Economic Development Division developed the program by redirecting funds from a broader Small Business Grant and Loan Fund intended to attract businesses to Hayward and help others in the City to expand.
Program funding allows for up to 76 grants of $5000 a piece that will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis to those meeting eligibility requirements. The grants can be used for any aspect of business and do not need to be repaid.
Application materials are available here on the City of Hayward website. Submit application materials by email to EconDev@hayward-ca.gov.

Time for vulture investing, I recall @manch, @Boolean, @tomato are looking for mom n pop businesses to buy on the penny. Now plenty to buy. Boba tea? Launderette?
Actually wifey suggested it to me. She didn’t want me to sit idle at home. Since i love boba, she figured this would get me out of the house and still be semi retired
Buy a marina. Get to collect cash all day from launches. Lots of pretty girls in bikinis. Can drink on the job. Bob the owner of Lazy M Marina was my hero. Died at 86. Spent his retirement years collecting cash, drinking with his buddies. His 60 year old wife and her daughters ran the restaurant. Marinas are closed now. Many will go bankrupt.
