Impact of election on market

Sure, if you want to be partisan you can call it Bush but the bottom was March of 09…both of them had to deal with it. Reality is something happens every 8–10 years so we should be prepared for it.

That was exactly my point. Republicans haven’t managed to keep spending in check despite controlling both the presidency (veto power) and the Senate. Both parties are out of control these days, they just have different constituencies.

It’s just another example where most Americans are wrong about what happened. I guarantee less than 50% and maybe under 10% know:

  1. AIG received the most money
  2. The government made a profit off the money the banks received

I see all the time where people are still mad banks were bailed out instead of people. If you point out the government made a profit from TARP, they call it right-wing propaganda.

the photo-op has upset the homeowners, who say they are frustrated the politicians ventured onto their property without approval when they themselves have not been allowed back to survey the destruction.

Politics be damned. Covid19 has been good to the RE market. Think about all the extra money available from the FED and not wasted on restaurants entertainment and travel. Bullish for housing and boats

And tech stocks :grinning:

This is what Trump accomplished before the virus unraveled things. Look for things to skip along the bottom for years if we do the same thing we did after the last crisis and put Dems in charge.

Poverty rates fall when we lower taxes. It’s enough to make liberal heads explode.

This couldn’t have been more predictable. This is the original Minnesota public radio report. Amazing, it appears only right leaning news outlets picked up the story. All the “mainstream” (aka left-wing indoctrination) networks aren’t covering it. That way their “informed” viewers won’t know it exists. That way they can carry on believing that defunding the police works.

The problem with liberals is they don’t trust people with their own money. Instead of taxing the shit out of the rest of us. Why don’t they use their own money for micro loans to the poor. That is the quickest way out of poverty, not government handouts.

Poverty rate has been falling since 2010.

Instead of taxes, maybe the current poverty rate falling trend has more to do with states and cities raising minimum wages.

Averaging across all of these federal, state and local minimum wage laws, the effective minimum wage in the United States — the average minimum wage binding each hour of minimum wage work — will be $11.80 an hour in 2019. Adjusted for inflation, this is probably the highest minimum wage in American history.

But today 89 percent of the nation’s 6.8 million minimum-wage employees face a minimum that is higher than $7.25 an hour. Even five years ago, relatively few such workers lived in areas with separate local minimum wages.

Putting your maths to good use?

I have no idea who is correct. Too lazy to analyze.

This certainly explains a lot if that’s your interpretation of the graph. You can see that since 1970 it’s varied between 10 and 15%. It’d be interesting to see the year of each tax cut as markers to see how poverty rate faired afterwards. The answer is pretty obvious.

Tax cuts increase GDP growth. GDP growth is the #1 way to reduce poverty.

Can you point me to the Obama tax cut that’s responsible for the current falling poverty rate trend?

Poverty rate has been falling since 2010.

That doesn’t mean cutting taxes won’t reduce poverty rate. Nice try though.

No, it doesn’t mean tax cuts have no effect.

But claiming nothing but taxes matter is complete bunk. While we are at it where is the Bush tax cut on the poverty rate chart? The LBJ/JFK tax cut happened in 1964 but poverty rate has been falling for years before that.

Bush was 03. There’s a pivot point where it started to decline. JFK cut the top marginal rate a ton. That supposedly only benefits the rich yet the poverty rate continues to fall.

Trump is not getting credit. But during the Obummer recession day labor was $10/hr in the BA. Now it’s $50/hr. Now you can blame Trump racism for keeping out illegal laborers or for the booming economy.

No matter what, Trump has been responsible for the largest minimum wage increases in history

I mean this is not welcomed by hard core Republicans
It is driving up the costs of construction, healthcare, food, restaurants and all businesses using cheap illegal labor. But is making a lot of hard working blue collar Americans ( Trump voters) rich. And they are buying boats, houses, cars. Can’t even get a new corvette… the redneck Ferrari

Agree about the corvette. I got a chevy bolt yesterday (sure…call me a greenie) and the dealer was telling me about how he had a 20,000$ markup on MSRP for corvettes and he was still selling them!
