Finally someone mentioned MOMO.

By all means, company MOMO looks good.

how would I know that? I lived there until 1996. I never met anyone who mentioned buying stock.
It may have changed since then due to 2 reasons:

  1. availability of electronic trading platforms like E-trade (I don’t know if such a thing ever came out over there)
  2. the push from the government to move responsibility for retirement funds from the government to the individual. Something similar to a 401k plan was promulgated around 2002. Keyword ā€œRiester Renteā€.
However, given the aversion to risk, people very likely mostly buy mutual funds.

In general, many things that are available here in the US to a wide range of the population, are in Germany only available to (or used by) a small elite. I learnt that within 2 weeks of my arrival in San Diego. The 25 year old neighbor in our apartment complex asked me to join him playing golf. He made his living as a waiter, earned probably $20k a year. In Germany, only attorneys and the like could afford the 4-figure monthly membership fee. However, this too may have changed. My knowledge comes from my sister who actually attempted to join a local golf club in the late 90s.

Good thing about America is that it’s so rich that even the masses can enjoy things only the elite in other countries can. So, if you are poor, best to stay here in good old USA.

Good to know. So far, have not heard of other nations other than USA that waiter  can be middle class. So what is happening to USA is we are reverting to global norm. The post-war era where almost every Americans is middle class is over.

Meanwhile, stock market behaves like it is starting to correct, typically, stock market peaks in Aug, and behaves bearishly in Sep/Oct, so it doesn’t mean bear market has started nor a recession is coming.

[/quote]Is changing fast. Starting with Mid West. No more working in a factory and can afford 3 cars, 2 houses and take luxury vacations.

The post WW2 prosperity was created by the destruction of the war. The US was the only developed country that didn’t have significant damage to roads, bridges, factories, etc. It created a level of prosperity that probably isn’t possible anymore, since there’s more competition. It’s easier to become upper class now as proven by the growing percent of people doing it. It’s also harder to have no skills and be middle class though. That’s why the bottom class is growing too.

The best is no-recourse fixed interest house mortgage loan. IMHO, is the best reason to buy homestead.

Few statements could be further from the truth. Or did you forget some sarcasm smiley?
At least for the waiter, if he’s still in San Diego, affordable healthcare is only 20 minutes on I-5 south.

If that were the case, I don’t think you’ve ever visited a developing country. The richest man on this forum indeed lives in a bubble…

The big trend now is e-commerce, anything AI, big data and cloud computing. Actually, they are quite related  How long would the trend last? 10, 20, 30… years? Is it possible for startups in these areas to usurp AAPL, AMZN, GOOG, and FB?

Every new trend, esp IT, dies in 5 to 7 years or until next downturn ! Financially saved/savvy people (as well as companies) survive the economic storm, rest washed away.

My prediction: apple will merge with Tesla to become the biggest high tech manufacturer in America, whereas fb will merge with google to become the biggest information hub. Then the two companies will eventually merge to become the biggest high tech behemoth in the Information Age.

Not at all!!! What sarcasm? SV will need to combine all its might in the future to compete against one formidable opponent: China. United we stand, divided we fall!

OMG, did TSLA just go up 8%? Hmm…

I was thinking the same!

Most Americans think USA is the best of the best: the ā€œWorld Seriesā€ syndrome.

Sarcasm smiley please! If Mexico were that great that waiter would not have sneaked across the border to become a waiter here to begin with.
