Agreed, but at some point either Israel is our ally or not. I get the feeling that the last couple of years we’ve been playing it cool “Oh yes, you’re our ally but we won’t support you really publicly at all because we don’t want to get our clothes dirty.”
Either in our out. We should make up our minds. Maybe that’s where the problem really is. That most US citizens don’t want to be in with Israel.
If that were the case, it’s better for America to ally with Israel than Palestine. Israelis are very industrious and embrace capitalism and meritocracy. Can’t say the same about the Palestinians. They need to change their mentality and outlook to better fit in this world.
Also, a good percentage of Americans are Jewish and I believe they all support Israel and want to see it continuing to thrive.
I don’t think it’s good, either from policy or moral point of view, that certain race or religion is more deserving than others. Just call it what it is.
For decades we have been stringing the Palestinians along. We always said “Jerusalem is gonna be shared and we are committed to a two state solution.”
Now Trump is tellingly the Arab world to go F yourself. Haha. Jerusalem is Israel’s and if you don’t like it go pound sand. Hamas is going to be super happy. It helps their recruiting and message tremendously. Yeah, finally clarity, for Hamas.
Then the Palestinians better speed up on their learning curve. Go start a business rather than resorting to terrorism. Quit blaming the Jews and realize their own deficiencies instead.
When you are a refugee living in a tent with no assistance how come you having the ability to fire missiles over to Israel? Quit making excuses already!
Is something in this plan refusing to share Jerusalem? Just asking…
I understand it pisses people off, but am I wrong that Israel has always considered Jerusalem to be the center of its faith and country? Why should the world tell Israel that they’re not allowed to have Jerusalem be their capital anymore? Should we let the world tell us we can’t move our capital to where the Twin towers were because it offends the Arab countries or Isis or Muslims?
Nobody is telling Israel they can’t have their capital in Jerusalem. They have had it there for many years. But we played this diplomatic song and dance to put our embassy in a different city. It’s all about nuance.
What do we gain by relocating embassy to Jerusalem? To piss the already very pissed people? I bet Hamas is already having a recruiting surge. It just adds rocket fuel to the fire.
If Hamas resort to more terrorism because of this then it’s their own fault. They will face grimmer consequences for their wrongs. But we are not going to refrain from doing the right thing just to please bad people. Palestinians need to learn that terrorism is not going to help their cause. Only commerce and cooperation are. Time to swallow some pride and learn to cooperate! The world will be a better place and their lives will be much better.
I always believe in “America First”. However, I am with @manch on this. When we as a nation can benefit from certain action, we should do it, even if other nations might be unhappy about it. But in this case, we don’t really gain anything. All of our European allies are against it as well.
Should or should not embassies be in the city where the capital is then? Are we implicitly saying Israel can’t have their capital in Jerusalem if we refuse to move our embassy?
There are significant Muslim population within those European countries so they might be limited that way. But America is more Jewish centric because of the Jewish population here.
That’s because Europe is full of Muslim refugees. They are scared what’ll happen if they get mad. They already have massive problems because of it. They’ll deny it, because they are so scared of being political incorrect and being perceived as Islamaphobic. It’s long past time the world stopped sweeping things under the rug in the name of political correctness.
I posted about one that went on for decades, since victims and police wouldn’t mention the race of attackers for fear of being politically incorrect or Islamaphobic.
Israel made Jerusalem their capital in 1980. That’s 37 years ago. The few counties that used to have embassies there before 1980 moved out, and no country has embassy there since. So all these countries are scared of Muslims? All have large Muslim population they have to placate?
There is an easier explanation. Putting embassies in Jerusalem doesn’t gain anything. Having it in Tel Aviv is just as good. The cons however is very severe. I will not repeat what I said earlier.
Why be a dogmatic and ideologue? Situations on the ground is what it is. Don’t complicate it. Don’t add fuel to a hot fire. In fact the logical thing for the Palestinians to do now is turn up the resistance. It’s proven to them loud and clear there is no hope to work things out inside the system.
This is about Trump pandering to the religious right evangelicals… He does not care about Israel. Didn’t even tell them about his plan… Just fulfilling a campaign promise to Christians who believe the rapture is coming soon… they don’t care about the Islamic backlash. They think Jerusalem should be Christian since the crusades
