Prop 6, the gas tax

Crude prices were @$100 in 2014 :slightly_smiling_face: vs @$62 today.

It is all about the liberals and their feel good gas taxes. It only feels good if you are rich and own a Tesla. Ironically rich liberals driving Teslas is making road maintenance funding even more problematic

Gas tax was voted by regular folks itā€™s not by the rich. Middle class voted for more gas tax so that they can pay a higher gas price.

Just not sure whether voters were brainwashed or were smart or were dumb.

Gas tax is a small amount so most people donā€™t really care.

We love paying more for less here but we are not moving nonetheless.

It all boils down to the break point. You need to do a highly complex modeling to calculate the tax amount that would make some people move. Also you need to know the percentage of movers who can make a difference.

People do move out and California has a negative net domestic migration.

To be honest, most people donā€™t travel to other states and they donā€™t even know it is different out there

They are whining about Trumpā€™s SALT limit.
Yet they love to give Newsom $1000 or more in extra gas taxes.

Maybe just being dumb and brainwashed to pay gas tax and subsidize Tesla drivers

Donā€™t worry the government is already talking about a mileage tax.

Majority of the population is pretty dumb and you can brainwash them pretty easily, as long as you can control the media.

A super majority of the North Koreans think their country is the best

Why donā€™t they spend some of the budget surplus on roads then? Instead, they want to create more government and increase taxes even more.

Stop making sense Marcus. We wonā€™t stand for that here in California.

I would mind paying it if it was actually going to fix roads, but the majority (80%) is going to SANDAG, the mass transit agency is the San Diego area. They promoted is as a way to fix roads, but it went to mass transit. SANDAG already was voted a tax increase for expressway projects but now it says its not enough so the money will be switched to mass transit. What a crock.

People should realize to NOT accept what a/some politicians say at face value, especially when historical evidence shows those among them to not follow what they have promised.

2ndly, how much total taxes is enough where we can be at a steady state? Evidence will show that taxes in CA are going only in one direction(in % terms) i.e. UP, while facilities have deteriorated. At a point we have to agree the core problem is not money but efficiency and wastage.

There will be a time when both businesses and people will leave(already started in my view in CA, only Qn remaining is whether the trend will continue)

People have to realize San Diego is not New York or Chicago where mass transit works great because everything is so compact. They recently completed a new express bus route 2 blocks from my house, complete with 2 bus lanes and expensive landscaping but very few people use it.

Constructing infrastructure is risky because is expensive and outcome unpredictable. Too late, congestion. Too early, hardly used. Take too long to plan or execute, cost escalate. Wrong forecast, white elephants. American politicians are voted in for their oratorical skills and charm, not visionary technocrats who excel at in implementing projects. Are the public sector good?

Iā€™m waiting to see an infrastructure project thatā€™s on time and on budget. The normal is years late and at least 3x the original budget. Thatā€™s why thereā€™s not more money for more projects.

People say that without government thereā€™d be no infrastructure projects. The original railroad systems and transcontinental railroad were built by private companies. If thereā€™s a need, private business would step in to build it.

Sitting in a Micky Deeā€™s in Globe for the free WiFi. Got picked for a jury an hour ago. $96 a day pay and gas is $2.75 a gallon here. Could be a lot worse. Could be Kali.

Vote Republican then. The Democrats will waste all your money on liberal guilt projects.
