2 anecdotes come to my mind:
I once reported a malfunctioning traffic light on the LTA web site. It was fixed after 3 days, along with a “thank you” via e-mail.
Once I was travelling in the subway, and saw an old lady faint. I went to her to prop her up and a few fellows joined to help. One called the emergency services through the train comm system. At the next stop, 2 people from the transport company joined. At the next-next stop, a wheelchair was waiting, at the “right” train door. She was lifted into the chair and carted away. Total delay: 2 minutes! A friend commented, in his city, they would have shut down the transport system for the rest of the day, and forgotten the lady at the platform
I will remind the wife to take it all in next month, in both Malaysia and Singapore, and dig deep into where we could invest some money for a possible home away from home. I want beachfront!!!
Idaho has beautiful beaches.
I know, a guy sold me a property there. I am confident it has gained equity by now. 
Singapore is nice and all. But I suspect HK will soar in the next decade. China seems poised to fly like an eagle, and HK is riding on its coattail. SG is in stuck in a bad neighborhood.
This kind of stuff will always be China’s big, hairy wart on its forehead…

Singapore ranks the highest in the quality of life index among the four Asian tigers. It’s probably the best place in Asia for foreigners because most people there can actually converse in English.

Singapore was very Western 30 years ago… Boring even then. Thailand is much more popular with western and Russian tourists…
