Why are UCs all located in wealthy neighborhood? Is it a discrimination against the poor and the people with higher crime potential?

Many top private universities are located in poor and dangerous neighborhood. So public universities left the bad neighborhood to private schools.

Not sure UC Merced applies… and of course Stanford area is quite affluent.

But keep in mind all of the other UCs were founded many moons ago for the most part and yeah those areas obviously got built out and became expensive.

College doesn’t change the neighborhood. Bad neighborhood also doesn’t make a top university bad.

But UC does not pick the bad neighborhood for its location, hypocritical.
