San Francisco: City of World Class Filth

I completely disagree with you on this one. SF is the one place where the homeless are in your face, follow you, and harass you, and it’s not 1 in 1000 for sure.

I have never shied away from taking the opportunity to talk to a homeless person, I carry food in my car and stop to offer it to people and to ask how they’re doing, and I learn people’s names. I’ve bought people clothes or particular foods (non-alcoholic) when they have specific needs. And I’ve sat and chatted with homeless (and sometimes not actually homeless) for up to an hour sometimes.

In SF, the homeless have gotten into the middle of groups of people and aggressively panhandled, they’ve yelled and harassed people I know, and multiple times my son and I have had them follow us and not leave us alone when asked. I’ve had one ask me for my soul, and she was totally serious (Haitian woman-possibly into voodoo/black magic).

SF homeless SUCK. They’re the worst homeless in any city I’ve visited - Chicago, Boston, Cambridge, Washington DC, the Peninsula. I’ve got a heart for homeless especially vets, but SF’s homeless are assholes compared to everywhere else in the US.

So you’re a renter with a household income of $121k? That’s the median SF resident.

Don’t you feel any guilt? That is the core of being a San Franciscan… to feel guilty for all the suffering. Feeling sorry for the homeless, minorities and the guy who breaks into your car. I will wait until your car has been vandalized and your home has been burglarized( happened to me years ago), then maybe you will see the progressives path is absolutely the wrong approach.

The homeless are not harmless. They are breaking into houses, shoplifting and breaking into your car.
I know you think SF is super desirable. But people are moving to the suburbs

But I am looking at booking a room at the St Francis for my fraternity reunion. $161/n seems awfully cheap. Tourists would rather go somewhere else. Plus condos are very reasonable now in SF.
My nephew made some offers in the Sunset. He ended buying in Albany.

The fact this Stupidvisors’ vote got so much bad press and pushback is great news. The YIMBY force has awakened.

Wiener listed six different reasons for backing the recall of all three commissioners. He wrote that the commissioners:

  1. “Failed to prioritize the safe reopening of our public schools.”
  2. “Allowed the school district’s fiscal standing to deteriorate so severely that the state Superintendent of Public Instruction had to intervene to stop the school district from becoming financially insolvent. SFUSD is now at risk of being placed under state control.”
  3. “Contributed to a significant decline in enrollment, with more and more parents pulling their children from the school district.”
  4. “So thoroughly jeopardized the functioning of the school district that the Superintendent announced his retirement and ultimately agreed to stay on another year only with a new contract that required BoE members to ‘govern in a dignified and professional manner treating everyone with civility and respect.’”
  5. “Prioritized and then mismanaged a process to rename dozens of schools despite these schools being closed – with no plan to reopen – during the pandemic.”
  6. “[Without] engaging significantly with the community, stripped Lowell High School of its merit-based admissions process – on exceptionally short notice – [without] considering other options to support Lowell’s need to address racial equity.”

He also added a seventh reason specific to Collins: Her use of a slur describing Asian Americans in old tweets.

Is this about SF or Detroit? The same thing happened in Detroit where the state had to take over and run the schools.

Cities like New York, Los Angeles and Miami, which have always been hubs for the global rich, are still seen as safe investments despite the ups and downs of the pandemic.

Brokers say overseas buyers prefer new construction – whether it’s a newly built mansion in Beverly Hills or a never-lived-in condo in a new Manhattan high-rise.

Plenty of new construction in Austin. Please come to papa.

Pretty sad, especially considering it’s most probably coming to other Bay Area cities near you pretty soon.

Forth knows this firsthand. Recently while walking through the Castro, he passed by an encampment and glimpsed one of his stolen bikes, as well as the dog trailer. He called police, who were aware that Forth had filed reports for both items.

But the two officers who arrived said they couldn’t do anything. They believed Forth but lacked proof the bike and trailer were his.

“So the situation had to be me going up to people who happen to be living on the street, and saying ‘Hey, I think you stole that,’” Forth said. “And I just wasn’t willing to steal my bike back.”

How do you like that area? Good for renting?

We are having weekly or more bike thefts in Redwood City.

Can you post pictures of the two men? We’ve got a photo of someone who stole stuff in RWC and would like to compare, but the article has a paywall.

Their pics are not in the article.

To bypass The Chronicle’s paywall, use in Show Reader View mode in Apple safari as the article loads or open link in private /incognito mode on your browser.
