Come on, and my fav city doesn’t? The point is, how can San Jose manage when it becomes even larger and more unruly??? Imagine if the tech boom went away, would SJ be able to effectively deal with it?

Even though San Jose is a tech center it has a high ratio of housing to tech jobs, which most of the other peninsula cities don’t have.

I think when people are bragging about San Jose, they are not bragging about San Jose itself, but Santa Clara County minus East San Jose. And when people are comparing San Jose to San Francisco here, they are actually comparing the Silicon Valley stretch of Palo Alto all the way to West San Jose, and stops right there.

Naturally, if you are compare that stretch to San Francisco, it’s going to beat San Francisco hands down. No doubt about it. This is your Apple+Google+Facebook neighborhood with multi-million dollar homes with a minimum of $1.5M average selling price. No metro in America can beat that.

The crime stats, income stats, education stats, and median home price stats are SF vs SJ. SJ is better in crime, and it’s closing the gap on the others.

Also, let’s not pretend SF is a model of fiscal responsibility.

I’m also curious what is meant by public transit. SJ is going to get BART. SJ already has Caltrain. SJ is going to get HSR. It has VTA light rail. Granted, muni is probably better than light rail, but SJ will have HSR. They’ll both have BART and Caltrain.

Again, did I say that? But let’s make it perfectly clear, we rose from the Great Recession faster than anyone else. Period. Do you honestly believe San Jose is diverse enough to handle a slow down in tech? What else do you have? The Sharks? LOL

They meant “San Jose Metro” which is the entirety of Santa Clara county.

Also, San Francisco could mean “San Francisco Metro” which is not only SF but SF+SM county+East Bay.

A lot of real estate data actually meant SJ Metro and SF Metro when they say “San Jose” or “San Francisco”.

Two words: rent control

And if not rent control, some folks are retired and just living it up. My neighbor is a retiree whom I saw on a cruise last year. I find out she is a legitimate regular on the cruises. When I called her recently to get her Yelp rating on the SF to Hawaii cruise she happened to mention that she has been on over 80 cruises in her lifetime!!! She is easily in her 80s…

This sounds like you’re saying rent control is a positive for SF.

The vast majority of the housing in the Fab 7x7 is older and probably under rent control. And remember, if everyone and their mother are adding inlaw units to SFHs as reported on the news last night well those become essentially rent controlled dwellings. People have been leaving for supposedly better schools for eons yet the old girl is doing as fine or better. I have said this before, it is all about the jobs. Nothing more, nothing less. If we have them, we good. If we don’t, all bets are off and we should see a decline but even during the Great Recession we didn’t fall like say Sacramento or Vallejo. At the end of the day, we are fairly diverse in terms of industries to weather most storms.

Cool. So a small percent of people who got a rent control unit years ago things SF is great. Meanwhile, the rent control policy makes it more difficult to attract new people.

Give all the rent control tenants a magic bus and send them to a permanent burning man camp…where they can do all the drugs they want and get fee shit from the government, kind of like prison…a concentration camp for hippies…lol
