Another explanation is that Xi banned coal import from Australia, to punish it for having the audacity to call for investigation of source of the coronavirus. So China has to look for other sources, and that jacks up the coal price so much that Chinese power plants have to operate at a loss now.
What I gather is, in general, Singaporeans think Xi is doing the right thing. You may want to verify by calling your friends in Singapore. Don’t let your prejudice and liberal Californians clouded your view.
Singaporeans like dictatorship. Large majorities of people in the world don’t. BTW Republicans have even more negative view on China. Not sure where your “liberal Californians” thing comes from.
Sometime I have to wonder. Guess I am not an American, doesn’t understand you. You stay in California. Most Californians especially Bay Area are liberals. Hence, I expect you to be influenced by liberal Californians more than conservatives. I don’t know what your chart has to do with my comment. If you just want to show that you know a lot, ok, I know now.
This is an interesting observation.
I do not go by polls too much. Polls are often clouded by Bradley effect.
My unscientific view is that about half of the world population (regardless of country/race/ethnicity) likes what China/CCP does. They see CCP as an underdog rising up against the evil Western capitalism that is trying to steal whatever little working people have. They would want the Chinese model to be adopted in the jurisdiction where they live. Jim Rogers is a good example. In their mind, China/CCP is not a country - it is a thinking and way of organizing life and economy.
Why should a person be afraid to talk about China on what he/she thinks from a country like Sweden? Don’t you think Bradley effect may not apply to all polls?
That said, businesses still had to operate, and Sisu Energy CEO Jim Grundy had to find a way to keep things moving. His solution was to offer experienced drivers in South Texas a rate of pay that was too good to pass up. This company has been paying drivers $14,000 each week, which equates to $60,000 a month, and over $650,000 a year. No matter what freight you’re hauling, it’s practically impossible to find another job that pays in the same realm as this.
Human motivation is a complex subject matter. Both Vietnam and China are communist countries but they do not see each other eye to eye. But, North Korea and China get along very well. Coming to your question. I really do not know how Swedish people think about China. I do not understood these poll, their sample, their methodology, and inferences, particularly if it comes from Pew.
My observation is that significant number of people in democratic countries root for China, particularly, for they way CCP puts the political people behind bar. They hope that corrupt politicians and rich in these democratic countries could be given same treatment. People in failed communist countries like Cuba and Venezuela still want more communism because they believe the communism that they had thus far was not pure enough and was never implemented in right earnest. They look up to China with awe. Rich people in western country also do not bother because they like a controlling force like CCP that can control a population of 1.4 billion ensuring a big market and a supply of cheap labor for their ventures. This games continues. Everyone benefits. So why bother? Truly speaking, Western Capitalist countries do not mind communism in China and do not care if it continues, so long as dictator in chief at CCP is their protege. Remember how Geroge Soros was not happy with Xi a few weeks ago!!.
