Time to revive my Berkeley admission stat thread…

Mills has the highest admission rate for Asians. Carlmont has the highest rate for whites.

Oh, come on, Lowell High in the Fab 7x7 wipes out your entire selected board baby!!! 260 enrolled!!!

What??? I thought Fab 7x7 schools are sooooo terrible…NOT!!!

Dude, you are doing it wrong. Search for “Berkeley” campus only. Here’s the sad truth:

Isn’t that just reflecting the demographics of the city?

Carlmont:

Millbrae:

I guess the question is why are so many more Asians %wise than Caucasians %wise from Carlmont applying? Fewer getting in would make sense assuming that they both are equally qualified/not qualified. Looking at the stats, %wise of overall population, a greater %age of Asians got in than whites in Carlmont.

Carlmont is alright. Nothing against it.

As @adc mentioned, you should come see the after-school tutorial centers along El Camino in Millbrae. Looks like Millbrae is a tiger town…

Ok fine… but still had the highest enrolled and let’s be honest Berkeley is not the end all of all colleges. I would rather look at all colleges, including Ivy League and why not other UC campuses? My UCLA supposedly has caught up to Big Brother.

All I am saying is, the notion that the Fab 7x7 schools are so bad has always been an overflowing crock of you know what. I can totally see the benefits of raising a kid here because he/she will get that urban learning experience of a major international city that you simply will not get in some suburb town. I was just talking to my neighbor the other day. Daughter went to schools here, then to Cal and now is working at some prestigious company back east. I told you about our good friend’s daughter who went to Lowell and Cal and is in doctor school at UCSF now right? Can be done.

Sure, it can be done. But FIRST you need to get in the damn Lowell! Oh, not everyone can get in? Boo…

Lowell too is not the end all, my friend. Good friend’s daughter graduated from another Fab 7x7 high school and is enjoying life at UCLA right now. Next???

I’m just saying that I think there’s way more to the stats than just what you’re looking at

Yeah, some people also win the Lotto and sit on millions without lifting a finger.

I want to maximize my kids’ chances. Truth is ALL high schools in SF suck except Lowell. Because Lowell picks the best and brightest and you need to pass exams to get in.

Dude, I am not kissing your arse but I suspect you teach your kids well and give them all the resources in the world to excel. I would bet money on it. Again, there are way other factors in life that makes a person successful. Drive, is one of them. I will say it again, I will take the hungry candidate over some overconfident yahoo for a job any day of the week.

Is it just figuratively speaking? ? Somehow I have the (false?) memory that in California all public schools have to be equally accessible to all students in the attendance area regardless of merits. That’s why many of the South Bay schools have to use a lottery system when the enrollment exceeds capacity. Or maybe that’s only for Santa Clara County?

Lowell High School is the only high school with academic and merit-based admissions criteria.

Report card grades from 7th- and 8th grades, and Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBAC) test results, will be used for admissions criteria.

Other documentation that shows extracurricular activities, extenuating circumstances, or that demonstrates ability to overcome hardship can be included with the Lowell application.

That’s great! I wish there were more of such school systems so that the teaching resources can be utilized more efficiently. Enjoy it while it lasts, before somebody sues it for exacerbating the achievement gaps.

You are trying too hard. Plenty of kids’ parents didn’t do anything and they turned out splendidly.
