Here is a mid century modern house that even I like.
Frank Llyod Wright called the architect a fucking genius. Lots of glass facing the ocean. House has a big court yard with a pool.
Perfect design for a Carmel cliff. Looks current even though built in 1951.

Here is another contemporary style house for 1/10th the price. My neighbor in Tahoe Keys, and a Redwood City contractor. Paid $2m and did major renovations. The garden is spectacular. My Tallac and Heavenly views from roof deck.
When you have great views the Architect’s job is easy… Just draw in lots of windows. Personally though it looks a lot like an office building. No overhangs, charm or character. It’s all about the views, the water and the garden… the realtor should have taken more pictures of the landscape.

Being in AZ I do miss my annual climbs of Mt.Tallac and Phipp’s Peak.
The second house is nice enough but right on top of it’s neighbors - at least by my standards.
You get what you pay for. My friend is selling one in Meeks Bay with a little more privacy for $28m. 15,000 sf… white Elephant.
Reduced from $35m… paid $8m worth $15m. He flips highend houses. He said he paid $1m for the chandelier in the dining room.
Rented it to a Google founder for $1m for the year in 2021.
It’s more my style. But I would rather be in the Keys than Meeks Bay… too isolated in the winter… plus the water is too rough for docking. I have 4 slips at my dock.

I remember well those granite boulder strewn hillsides from a house my family rented for two weeks each year in Meek’s Bay. We were there from the late 80’s to mid 2000’s every year. Don’t remember the address. The owner had run the New York Port Authority. Markers on the deck railing indicted which mountain one was looking at. Bats lived in the eves over the deck. We loved them. In the evening we’d sip wine and wait for the bats to come out and buzz us for the mosquitoes we’d attract.
I walked the beach behind Stanley’s place . Nobody there on one of the biggest weeks of the year . Perfect weather, Celebrity golf.
His place needs all the landscaping redone(weeds in his beach). And the house needs to brought up to the 21st century
All the vacation homes I’ve rented in Tahoe are so outdated. Older than me.

I had to sell the family home in 2018 when my mom died. Stanford. If you think Tahoe is dated you should see professorville 
I had some trepidation when talking to the agent and he said “don’t worry; they all look like this on the inside here.”
Thanks to TRPA and the building department, remodeling in Tahoe is a nightmare. Consequently there are hundreds of old run down buildings in South Lake Tahoe. I only do interior remodeling that doesn’t require a permit.
