The nature of the business. Good employees that leave become your competitors. The most expensive plumber in South Lake a Tahoe just died… a smart employee will take over… or a competitor
The trades are short of people and pay well… College education, meanwhile, has become more and more expensive while adding less and less value unless you get a STEM degree.

Sure people say this but their own kids are going to college. None of my contractors/trades people want their own kids in the business.
