Telecommuting/ WFH and Remote Work

Give yourself some time.

Every city will have the traffic and housing issues. Which city will not? And actually California does not have housing problem different from other places. I have said this several times. But, what really sets California high in list of declining state is the foolish politics of the state.

Blaming or crediting Republican vs Democrat control as the root cause for a place’s desirability or undesirability is overly simplistic.

There are probably deep rooted structural reasons for the differences between places like SF Bay Area and Austin. We cannot control all of those, and neither do the Democrats or Republicans. Just choose to live wherever is the best fit for your needs

some of it can be controlled, if not all.

college degree is not a prequisite for smartness. Most people do just as good without degrees.
Most people struggling in Bay area have higher education and college degrees.

How many yrs living in CA made you realize it’s a shit hole?

If you can spot a shit hole, you will see it at first sight.

Ok which city or state in USA is a paradise?

Certainly there are states that have less taxation and less regulation. Government does not make paradise, if that is what you are looking for. People make a place paradise or shithole. Th influential people leave greater impact. Why is not Apple expanding just 100 miles out of San Jose? Why to other states?

My statement has implied meaning  I have answered your comment before your comment.

SF Bay Area is a very desirable place to live and work, hence lot of people trying to come here from all over the world and “make it” here. Part of “making it” is buying a nice home in a nice area. Hence the craze for real estate.

Austin is also a very desirable place and many people want to move there to live and work. Hence, Austin RE is also becoming more expensive.

Nothing to do with Republicans or Democrats. Stop thinking that these politicians have so much power and ability to influence life in these areas. Whether R or D, they are a bunch of nincompoops. Let’s stop being influenced by their political rhetoric and just get on with our lives.

Deviate from original comment

From reasoning why A to B, become A is desirable and B is desirable.

Many fiercely claim that A is more desirable than B yet some go from A to B. What pushes and pulls that cause this flow?

It is amusing. People will not hire a janitor without checking background and character, but believe it is OK to put person of any character in charge of state and in control activities like taxation, regulation, security, and legislation.

While both are nice places, Bay Area (A) is more desirable than Austin (B).

But there is a bigger price to pay for the higher desirability of A. The people who are not willing to pay that bigger price may move from A to B, even if they find A more desirable than B.

A is great, B is good enough. Lots of people are happy with good enough, especially if they can live mortgage-free in B, compared to being burdened with 7 figure mortgage in A.

Sometime you argue very well. :+1: :+1: :+1:

Actually I see more of the reverse. Many bitch CA and Bay Area are hellholes but somehow refuse to leave. One has to conclude it’s not really as bad as they claim to be.

This’s a valid point but does this apply only to Biden or people like Trump as well?

I leave the decision on who to apply to you and others. But, to say the character of person does not matters tells the depth of ignorance, just as does saying that only a PhD can judge what is right or wrong.
