Telecommuting/ WFH and Remote Work

Maybe the article I shared was a bad choice to voice my opinion but I just feel like we can basically do everything else besides work in an office.

Even with mask and vax mandate, we can’t open offices up for those who want/choose to go back? I say give the people the Option. I’m not anti-WFH at all.

Companies want people to come back to office. It’s the employees(majority IMO) who are reluctant.

Here’s an opinion article which supports this view.

My stand is not for/against companies Wanting/Forcing their employees back into the office. That’s a separate battle. Rather I’m bothered by those companies who already announced permanent work from anywhere policies but yet their offices remained close. I have friends at those kinds of companies. I don’t get it. Many of them DO want to go back in (at least 2, 3 times a week) but they can’t. For some, they have to request permission to be in office even though it’s technically opened.

Joy of WFH:

https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/05/business/better-ceo-fires-employees/index.html

“If you’re on this call, you are part of the unlucky group that is being laid off,” Garg said on the call, a recording of which was viewed by CNN Business. “Your employment here is terminated effective immediately.”

Buy ZM?

Why are these journalists making conclusion so early into the WFH movement?

I’m so confused. How did she go to work before the pandemic? Schools are open, so why isn’t her kid going to school? There’s no need for her kid to be doing remote schooling. Also, how the hell is she supervising her kid doing remote schooling while working construction? The summary is: she quit her job over having to go to the office and not being able to remote school her kid. Now she has a job that pays half as much and still can’t remote school her kid.

Also, witness the single mom with 4 kids. This is why only 5% of households are led by a single mom, but it’s way more than 5% of kids.

sorry i missed this, last week crazy with thanksgiving/family. I start 1/10. I am curious how it is going to go down too, as there are a number of remote folks also on the team, as well as a few people at HQ.

“When her request was denied, she felt she had no choice but to resign.”

There has to be more story here that the author intentionally skipped. Resigning from a stable desk job with benefits and good pay while raising 4 kids on her own but having no clear plan in sight is simply stupid. Either there is some mental issue going on or a reason that cannot be openly discussed. Yes her financial stability is all gone and it’s a nightmare, but it’s hard to pin the blame on anyone else.

She should have moved to CA. Her lawsuit would’ve brought her millions.

Indeed, a quarter(25%) of all HIGH-PAYING jobs in North America are predicted to go remote by the end of 2022, according to research from Ladders, a career site for six-figure jobs that has tracked the availability of remote work since the pandemic began, rising from below 4% of all high-paying jobs to around 15% at present.

Agreed…

But do you want to know why? Because they want it. That guy admitted it - the media told you that you had to go into the office. Now that same media will tell you that you don’t.

Personally, I think it’ll all depend on the team, the manager, and the company as to who needs fully in person teams and who can do without. The media should just stay out of it except maybe to let everyone know when what companies are returning when so people can add 20 more minutes to the traffic estimates.
